Description

Yakushima is a fascinating island that belongs to Kagoshima prefecture. Join this 2-day trek to discover its beauty!

This subtropical island in south-west Japan is one of the most rainy and wet places in the whole country. Because of that, the landscape is a mixture of green mountains and deep mossy forests.

On this 2-day hiking trip we’ll visit two wonderful natural areas in Yakushima:

Yakusugi Land

One of the main attractions of the Island are its ancient cedar trees with more than 1000 years of existence, which are known as Yakusugi. You can admire them on this half-day trip. Depending on the hiking trail we choose, we can walk there between 3 to 6 hours.

Shiratani Unsuikyo

A magical natural park on a mossy forest. It’s known for being the inspiration for the famous animation film “Princess Mononoke”, by Hayao Miyazaki. We can also choose between a 3-hour trek or a full day trek here.

We’ll decide which place to visit first according to the weather, leaving the best day to visit Shiratani Unsuikyo.
