Description

Join me in this week-long expedition to the mythical Mount Olympus. It’s the highest and most famous mountain in Greece. Besides, it has many peaks and gorges that we can explore together. In fact, if conditions allow it we will climb to the highest peak, Mytikas (2918m).

The Olympus Grand Trail runs the northeast & east side of Mount Olympus via a well-scheduled itinerary of 60km, in amazing seaside, forest, and high-altitude trails. This challenging and highly rewarding adventure is very tightly connected with Mediterranean culture. On it, you will enjoy elegant sea views, friendly Greek hospitality, quality food, high summits, and pure unspoiled nature. You can find a detailed itinerary below.

Keep in mind that every day we will hike for around 5 to 7 hours. You will also need to be fit enough to go up 300m of vertical ascent per hour. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you on the way.

Do you find this traverse of Mt Olympus interesting? Then please contact me for more information! I would love to guide you in this area.

Mountain Guide

I come from Greece and always remember myself as a kid in the mountains…
Now, I am a Certified Mountain Guide HMGA, member of the Hellenic Mountain Guides Association (License number A.N 867/37, Nr 19 FEK (A)621-999/28-11-07) also a Mountaineering – Ski Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor, member of the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering & Climbing (H.F.M.C).

My passion for the mountains led me on numerous hikes, ski tours, and rock and ice climbs in Greece, the Alps, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Bulgaria, with many new routes under my signature.

The beautiful valleys at the foot of Mount Olympus – Greece are my home, and the flanks above are the playground to follow my mountain love, may it be ice-climbing, ski touring, hiking, or alpine climbing. For me, it is the perfect terrain to train, play and guide.

I teach mountaineering, rock climbing, and ski mountaineering in various Climbing Schools & Mountaineering Associations, and I spend a lot of wintertime as a ski instructor. I love to share my passion with guests and guide hikers, mountaineers, climbers, and ski tourers all year round.

I am married to Mariza and we have a daughter and two sons together.
I speak Greek, English, and French.

I don't give 5 stars to anything unless it cannot be improved in any way. This is not the modern way I understand but for me 4 Stars is a very good rating, it does not suggest anything is bad. Akis is a superb guide and knows the mountain intimately. This is, as requested, a challenging trail with great variety of views and terrain. The only reason I would not give the trip the very highest rating is that the first two days, especially the second, is unrelenting uphill which was a physical challenge but was not fun with 13kg packs. It reminded me too much of my army days. But this is a great trail with an exceptionally good guide who made us feel safe at all times and showed us things we would never have discovered on our own. We were all very pleased with the experience.

My trip to Mt Olympus with Akis Parousis was the trip of a lifetime. Akis was more knowledgeable than I could have ever imagined. The hiking, of course, was extraordinary, but all of the extra things that we did made this trip unbelievable. Hiking with Akis, I knew I was safe and cared for. He made sure that I was taken care of in every aspect of the trip. He always has a plan A, B, C and D just in case something doesn’t work out perfect. Thank you, Akis for your love and care!!!
