Ski touring in Baguales, 2 days (Bariloche)

In this ski trip we climb Mt Villegas and the Ciruela Range and enjoy a day or two of great ski runs there. This is the shortest of my set of programs offered in Baguales, taking only 2 days while still offering some great backcountry skiing with very characteristic landscapes of the Baguales Reserve.

About Baguales
Right in the heart of Patagonia, Baguales Mountain Reserve, surrounded by the Villegas River and the Foyel River, combines pristine forests, open wilderness, steppe, imposing mountains, deep canyons, valleys and curiously rocky summits where the majestic Andean Condor ( vultur gryphus) can be spotted.
The vast panoramic scenery reflects the infinite extension of this landscape which in its deep valleys covered by lenga beech (nothofagus pumilio) hosts local fauna as well as other introduced species. The untouched serenity of this natural reserve and its region serves as an invitation for birds and crystalline water sounds.

Minimum: 2 persons

Requirements:
full backcountry ski equipment
(ideally light), ARVA, avalanche beacon, shovel,
probe, helmet, light or aluminium crampons, warm
and waterproof clothes, one pair of thin gloves and
another pair of warm protective gloves, glasses and
goggles, sun-blocking cream, torch, a 30-litre
backpack and liner to sleep in the refuge.

What is Included in this pack:
transfers in/out, one-night lodging in shared
bedroom and bathroom, all meals and lunch,
transfer with baggage to refuges in snowmobile.

Equipment rental

In case you do not bring you own backcountry skis, you will be able to rent skins, skis and rescue equipment, ARVA, avalanche beacon, shovel and probe (USD 100 additional charge). Boots not included.

Transfer from your hotel at 8.00 am to Baguales
Mountain Reserve. Estimated transfer time: 1 hour.

Starting point

Climb up the Mount Villegas

Ascend to La Mesada Refuge (1,660 metres above sea level) by 4×4 vehicles, snowcats, snowmobiles.
By crossing La Mesada, we climb up the South face of Mount Villegas and we go skiing on the wide eastern-side slopes and varied alternative routes this incredible mountain offers.
Dinner and overnight stay at La Mesada Refuge

High ridge of the Ciruela Range

Day 2: We climb up to the high ridge of the Ciruela Range to ski the south and south-east slopes of this incredible amphitheatre that maintains the best snow throughout the winter
In the afternoon we descend up to La Mesada Refuge and then to the parking lot to start the return trip to the city of San Carlos de Bariloche
