FAQs: Backcountry Skiing in Slovenia

What should I know about Backcountry Skiing Slovenia?

Kranjska Gora is an awesome resort and there are many different places you can ski tour around here. Another great option is a ski tour to the Kanjavec mountain where you can spend a number of days exploring the spectacular backcountry and staying in mountain huts. A multi-day backcountry trip across the Triglav traverse is another great experience where you’ll find yourself secluded in the mountains.

Why should I choose Slovenia for my Backcountry Skiing adventure?

**Awesome mountains **

The Julian Alps, Kamnik and Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Alps are the three main ranges in Slovenia. Mt Triglav, in the Julian Alps, is the tallest of these mountains. Not only are they awesome to look at, but they also have some excellent skiing areas.

** Diverse landscapes **

Slovenia’s landscapes are stunning and varied. From the dramatic Julian Alps to the picture-perfect Ljubljanica River and the lush Adriatic coast, when you’re not skiing you need to be exploring the beauty of the country.

**Rich history and culture **

Slovenia only gained their independence in 1991 but the history of the land and its people goes back a long way. During years of dominance by foreign nations, Slovenians clung to their traditions and language and these are still treasured today.

Did not end up doing the traverse but opted for day tours. Mitja was very flexible as well as knowledgeable and really knew the area so we had the best of the conditions to suit our needs. Highly recommended and would use Mitja without hesitation for future trips to the mountains of Slovenia. We had a great time.

Igor was a great guide. This was my first tour and he was very patient and very happy to pass on his considerable knowledge. Stunning surroundings and great snow made for a fantastic experience. Thanks!

We are very pleased to have met Martin. He was like a father to us. Better than a father, a friend. We’ve been happy and working with a smile that Martin put in our faces. He had a good idea: invert the Triglav ski trip, because the 4° day had bad wheather Forecast. Then, first Triglav . On the last day, he proved this professional skills by guiding us through the fog by a karstic terrain, sometimes without using ski tracks. We’d be delighted to have him again and would be happy to repeat this whenever possible

Mitja has been an excellent guide during this trip. He knows each and every bit of the Triglav park. He also knows how to adapt the route for each group level. Being a quite good group of skiers, he took us into some steeper slopes and increased the overall descent of each day by 500m. So we achieved 1300/1500 and 1900m up during the trip. He has also a good practical sense so it can help to fix any technical problems during the trip. I highly recommend him!
