In the heart of the Kalahari Desert, the climate of Botswana toggles between semi-arid and desert. Dry season lasts through winter (June to September), though the rain that occurs in summer is regional and unpredictable at best.

Flying into Gabarone at Sir Seretse Khama Airport is most common. Maun has an airport close to the Okavango Delta to accommodate safaris and exploration, and also has direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town. Roads are suitable to enter Botswana, though many areas are remote and access to services can be limited.
Visiting during the Dry Season - May through September - provides the best season for Botswana. Temperatures are also more accommodating during this time.
Botswana is a landlocked country in South Africa bordering South Africa to the south, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the east and northeast. It also shares a tiny border with Zambia in the north on the Zambezi River. Known for its wildlife and natural beauty, it is home to the Okavango Delta, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The inland delta features lush terrain that is a popular destination for both wildlife and tourists. Its capital and largest city, Gabarone, sits in the southeast of the country near the border with South Africa. The Gabarone Dam to the south of the city is popular among birdwatchers and windsurfers, and crocodiles can be seen in the water.
