Good to Know
What’s the weather like?
England has a maritime climate and is characterised by its changeable weather. Mild temperatures mean that winters rarely dip below freezing point and summers don’t usually reach beyond 32 °C.
British pound sterling.
How to get there?
You will probably fly into one of London’s airports, Heathrow or Gatwick, the busiest in Britain and one of the busiest in the world. Alternatively, an international flight to Manchester Airport would get you much closer to the mountains and national parks of England. Situated in the north west of England, Manchester is about 15 miles from the Peak District, and 90 miles from the Lake District.
Best time to visit
Due to mild temperatures during all four seasons, it’s possible to climb the cliffs and mountains of England all year round, providing that it’s dry. Indeed, winter is the best time to climb the gritstone boulders of the Peak District, as this is when the friction is at its best.
