Come with me to this 1-day program and enjoy hiking from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rocca Calascio in L’Aquila province, Abruzzo.

**Santo Stefano di Sessanio** is a medieval town inside the **Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park** in the **Abruzzo region,** in southern **Italy**. From this town, we’ll hike to **Rocca Calascio**, a medieval fortress in the highest region of the **Apennines**. On this tour, we’ll spend the whole day exploring this fantastic area in Italy.

First, we’ll depart from Santo Stefano at **8 am**. The hike will take us through **Campo Imperatore**, a beautiful alpine meadow above Gran Sasso Massif. While hiking, we’ll contemplate the stunning landscapes of the Apennines and get to see some of the lovely local fauna. Apart from the nature hike, we’ll also have time to explore Santo Stefano and Rocca Calascio, an amazing historical landmark. Finally, we’ll return to Santo Stefano at **4 pm**.

In the summer, we’ll also have the chance to enjoy this hike on full moon nights. If you’re coming in this season, you can’t miss this thrilling experience!

Although this is not a technically difficult hike, keep in mind that it will be helpful to have a **very good level of fitness**. Depending on the time of the year you choose to come, we’ll find different types of obstacles, such as the wind, the cold and the rain. Also, take into account that we’ll cover a distance of around **10 kilometers** and face an elevation gain of **500 meters** on the hike.

**This 3-day trip will take us to the highlights of Gran Sasso.** Depending on your wishes, we can go to Chiarino Valley, Venacquaro Valley, Sella dei Grilli, Pizzo Cefalone, and many other spectacular spots. In addition, **we will spend two nights in a charming mountain hut!**

Below the rough vertical walls, the slopes of this massif are covered with **deep green grasses and meadowland wildflowers**. The park is also the habitat of **many animals such as wolves, bears, foxes, snakes and birds**. Trust me, this hiking adventure will be unforgettable!

**Campo Imperatore (italian for “Emperor’s Field”) is an alpine meadow standing  above the Gran Sasso massif** in Italy. I am an expert local guide and would love for you to join me on this 2-day hiking tour where we will explore the highlights of this beautiful area!

Located within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, this scenic location is known as Little Tibet. **It has an area of approximately 80 km2 and lies next to the Apennines’ highest peak, Corno Grande**. In spring, summer and fall, it gets covered with deep green grass and wildflowers.

**This 2-day hiking trip will take us to some of the most amazing spots of the Campo Imperatore surroundings**: Chiarino Valley, the Malecoste, Venacquaro Valley, Sella dei Grilli and Pizzo Cefalone. In addition, **we will spend a night in the charming Fioretti mountain hut!**
