More Info

While it may not seem the ideal spot for freeriding, Turkey is full of surprises. The Kaçhar Mountains stretch several hundred kilometers across the country’s northern coastline and offer excellent variety for freeriding.

There are long uninterrupted slopes on some of the tallest mountains in the country, including Kaçkar Dağı. There are also wooded foothills and gorgeous valleys that offer lovely contrast if skiing at slightly lower elevations.

Heliskiing is another popular option here. It allows you to freeride ski at various different points all around the region. It is the best way to see a lot in a short period of time, although that convenience is reflected in the price.

Good to Know

What’s the weather like?

During the winter, northern Turkey is fairly warm. Average temperatures sit 5 or so degrees above freezing. Temperatures dip as you head farther up into the mountains, so snow sticks. Winter also tends to be the wettest time of year, with plenty of snow falling throughout ski season.

How do I get there:

Getting to the northwest of Turkey for heliskiing usually begins with a flight into the Ataturk International Airport (IST) in Istanbul. From here you will generally fly into Trabzon Airport (TZX) before meeting with your guide and heading to your final destination.
