Italy offers some of Europe’s best hut-to-hut skiing. Take advantage of great scenery, amazing snow and empty slopes when you head out into the Italian backcountry!

Along with Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, heading west toward the Dolomites yields some great hut-to-hut options as well. Take advantage of the comprehensive hut system to explore this karst landscape.

Going on to South Tyrol means you could ski across three countries, Austria and Switzerland too, when you head out for a hut-to-hut trip in these border regions. There’s nothing like doing three countries in three days! This is also possible in the Aosta Valley, near Courmayeur.

Good to Know

What’s the weather like?

During the winter months, the north of Italy is generally quite cold with mean daily temperatures of -7ºC. Temperatures increase a bit in the spring, but not by much. While the area receives plenty of snowfall, there are also many clear days; ideal conditions for ski touring.

How to get there:

This depends on where you’re headed. For the Aosta Valley and Piedmont, flights into the Geneva International Airport (GVA) or the international airport in Turin (TRN) get you there most quickly. From each of these, the most popular starting points can be reached by bus, train or airport shuttle.
