No lifts are accessible to aid the ascent so the climb of Gran Paradiso requires a significant effort. However, the sense of accomplishment when you reach the top is quite real: you have to earn your success. Rest assured, however, the climb is not technically difficult and is a great first peak if you want to try your hand over 4000m. If you’ll be climbing it during July or August, try to avoid the weekends, when it gets fairly crowded.

Good to Know

What’s the weather like?

Gran Paradiso is well-known for its fine southern alpine climate and it sometimes climbed as an alternative to Mont Blanc when the weather is not favorable on the other side of the border. Prepare for cold temperatures in Autumn and Spring and mild weather in summer.

How long should I stay?

You can climb Gran Paradiso in 2 days though you may want to stay for a week to enjoy the national park.

Best time to visit

June to September are definitely the most popular months for the ascent, though the mountain can be climbed in Autumn and Spring as well.

Peaks Hunters were brilliant from the point of first contact.  They took care of every last detail from planning the
trip to providing all the mountaineering equipment.  On the mountain our guides were amazing.  Positive, confident, good company and with safety always at the fore front.  They set the pace and made sure as many of our group as possible hit the summit.  Thank you so much to the Silvia, Elis and the team.  Will definitely be using you again
The trip was excellent. We met the owner of Peak Hunters and next time would preferably like to travel with
him. You all saved us and our trip and we are forever in your debt. We are already excited to book next years with you guys.
Sheena and Chris for Gran Paradiso 2 Day Guided Ascent
The trip was great, the guide the programme the team everything. Except for 1 thing: the clothes recommended in the
list of equipment was too hot for that season i felt like.
We had a great couple of days in the mountains with Marco, who is very experienced guide and he shared
us lot of information regarding mountaineering and the surrounding mountains. We definately recommend everyone to book a trip with Marco.
Professional guide who carefully assessed our climbing and fitness abilities to get to the top unfortunately we came down a bit
too fast and I fell and broke my big toe and was unable to attempt the Mont Blanc climb which was very disappointing because I felt ready to try. We felt challenged but relatively safe all of the time, the fall was an unfortunate mistake. Jan offered us additional training between the climbs to improve our chances on Mont Blanc which we really appreciated but were unable to take advantage of. We would climb with him again.
Everything was perfect. We had to bring forward the trip due to weather conditions and Remy was very flexible. He
made us feel comfortable along the climb and everything went very easily although it was only our second 4000 ascension. He’s a very nice and pleasant person. I highly recommend him!
Ciao! I just want to thank you for great services. Also the guide Luca Bianco was excellent 10/10. I had
a great trek to peak of Gran Paradiso. Best regards, Johan Winther

The guide himself was really nice, as was the Hut. No wifi or cell service there for those who need
that ?. We did not take the summit because of worsening weather conditions. So we shall be back later this year for another attempt. Really nothing one can do about the weather anyways…
Remy was a superb guide, would really recommend him! Warm and friendly personality. Very professional and knowledgeable, made us (beginners)
feel comfortable during the trip. We had a lot of questions beforehand, all communication was clear, fast responses and Remy was always available by mail or phone. Also fast response by Explore-Share. The Gran Paradiso was amazing, especially the views, climb tough but very doable. Next time I would go skiing down instead of hiking.
Due to snow conditions we changed the trip to a ski tour. My second time off piste but Elis was
very patient and provided good direction… will definitely be back !
We swapped over to mt Rosa because of weather conditions, wich was really nice too. the only thing of notice
might be that you could give a better idea of the extra things that we need to pay eg. the hut or extra equipment. It would just be nice to kinda know how much things will cost before starting.

Andrea was personable and did a good job of getting my daughter to the summit. As far as feedback,
he said we didn’t need helmets. Given the possibility for slips, rocks from above, etc., I think he should always recommend clients use a helmet even when the risk is low. Also felt could have been more accommodating of older climbers (like me at 61) and adjusted the pace accordingly.

Climbing in the Mont Blanc area with Elis, first time climbing, had an amazing time, with a good learning curve
through the peaks, very professional help from Elis, would highly recommend.
Awesome guide, awesome trip. Hope to book Jessy again as a guide for future mountaineering trips!
We are a couple with very short experience in high mountain. Andrea injured his foot and he couldn’t come with
us, but he advised us perfectly and he managed everything in order to climb Gran Paradiso & Breithorn with two very professional guides: Remy and Alessandro. Very happy to contact with him!
My first experience with alpinism but 100% worth it. Because of bad weather we couldn’t ascend the Mont Blanc but
the backup program saved the trip. Learned a lot and seen mighty things. Overall, enjoyed a lot, a week we will never forget.
