Numerous subranges of the Alps run all across the north of Italy and make for some quite impressive ski touring opportunities. From Turin or Chamonix, the Aosta Valley is an easy drive. Here there is plenty of ski touring and heliskiing for skiers of every level to enjoy.

Farther to the east sit the Dolomites. This large sandstone subrange is renowned for hiking, climbing and mountaineering in the summer, but also offers excellent skiing in the winter. Fewer people venture here during this ‘off season’ allowing you to discover this majestic landscape with fewer other tourists around.

These may be the most popular spots, but Italy has numerous others as well. Along the Swiss border, heliskiing is common, allowing you to cover great distances and sample superb slopes on both sides of the border. Even farther east, along the border with Slovenia, there are sleepy towns with excellent freeride slopes.

Good to Know

During the winter months, the north of Italy is generally quite cold with mean daily temperatures of -7ºC. Temperatures increase a bit in the spring, but not by much. While the area receives plenty of snowfall, there are also many clear days; ideal conditions for ski touring.

How long should I stay?

This depends on how much time you have and what you plan to do. Many guides offer single-day skiing expeditions as well as longer, ski touring excursions. Overall, a week is enough time to explore and ski in this beautiful country.

Everything was perfect. Giovanni is a fantastic guide who took care of me. Moreover, the weather was fine. Great souvenir !
Thanks a lot !
Awesome day with the very skilled and nice guide, Etienne. He had a great approach and made it challenging for
the both of us. We highly recommend a back-country day with Etienne!
We had great time skiing with Etienne. He not only guided us down some of the best Freeride runs, but also
gave powder skiing lessons.
Our guide was Pietro and not marco like we initially thought. Pietro was awesome, it is all about his clients
and most importantly safety. We did two runs and it was an incredible experience. Guide is a must to explore the hidden spots because Monterosa ski is massive.
Arielle Falcone for Monte Rosa, guided freeride ski
PAOLO was an amazing guide. This trip was the “craziest” experience of our groups lives. We saw incredible
terrain, had great snow, and challenged ourselves. Highly recommend
Enrico treated us to a fantastic and thrilling day exploring the wonders of the Dolomites – his knowledge and tips
made for an unforgettable day
Enrico took us for a fantastic tour with plenty of tips and masses of local knowledge to help us make
the most of our day out. Definitely recommended.
We had a fablupus day. We were initially booked with Marco but due to the weather we went later
in the week and Marco wasn’t available. We had another guide called Paolo Tombini and he was very good, very professional and good company.
Had a great day with Enrico. We were a group of 2 snowboarders and a skier. Enrico was very patient
with us. Will return again.
Nicolas Vouilloz for Chamonix Guided Splitboarding Tour
We had a fantastic day with Elis doing ski touring in the Aosta Valley. He was easy-going, yet very professional,
and had a good knowledge of the area. He made safe route choices on a day with considerable avalanche risk and shared some nice tips and tricks along the way. He was able to communicate well in both Italian, French and English. We would not hesitate with using him for future trips
We chose Etienne because of his unusual qualities of being a qualified as a ski instructor as well as an
IFMGA mountain guide, and we were not disappointed. The combination of his knowledge, experience and friendly enthusiasm enabled us to enjoy a variety of conditions in the Dolomites while improving our technique through fun and innovative approaches. I would have no doubt about hiring Etienne again and highly recommend him as an instructor and/or a guide.
We had a awesome time in Courmayeur! Conditions were perfect: fresh powder and a shiny sun. The guide was a
really nice guy, very experienced mountain guide and fun! Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone!
