Beautiful landscaped defined by rugged mountains and the Black Sea and gorgeous valleys define the north of Turkey. Exploring this landscape on a splitboard is a great way to combine seeing some excellent scenery and snowboarding down a variety of snow-covered slopes.

Head to Ayder while you;’re there and enjoy natural springs when you’re not out on the slopes. Splitboarding here is very versatile. Enjoy lift assisted access for single-day trips near resort areas or head out into the backcountry for a hut-to-hut expedition and see even more of this scenic spot.  

If you’re up for it, take your skins and head up Kaçkar Dağı, toward the west of the range, before speeding down the peak’s slopes and enjoying all of the corresponding views.

What’s the weather like?

During the winter, northern Turkey is fairly warm. Average temperatures sit 5 or so degrees above freezing. Temperatures dip as you head farther up into the mountains, so snow sticks. Winter also tends to be the wettest time of year, with plenty of snow falling throughout ski season.

How do I get there:

Getting to the northwest of Turkey for heliskiing usually begins with a flight into the Ataturk International Airport (IST) in Istanbul. From here you will generally fly into Trabzon Airport (TZX) before meeting with your guide and heading to your final destination.
