FAQs: Mountain Climbing in Italy

What should I know about Mountain Climbing Italy?

Stretched over just 3,200 square kilometers, the Aosta Valley is chock-full of incredible mountaineering opportunities. Aside from the three aforementioned options, which are among the most popular, there are plenty of other great peaks to climb.

Taking a day to climb the Breithorn from Cervinia, in the north of the valley, is another popular option. This is another climb that is perfectly suited for beginners and provides incredible views out over the Matterhorn.

Aiguilles d’Entrèves, just outside of Courmayeur, is another classic alpine climb. The sustained climb requires traversing glaciers and some technical climbing at the summit, but the views of Mont Blanc are well-worth the effort.

Intrepid moutnaineers can even head up Mont Blanc, itself, approaching from Pointe Helbronner and traversing the entire massif en route to the top!

My guide Gigio was fantastic - couldn’t ask for a better guide to help me get to my first 4000m peak! Since the lift was closed for the season we hiked up from Cervinia at 2000m rather than starting the climb from 3500m which made it somewhat more interesting and taxing. My only complaint is the price: 960 euros for the guided climb plus 185 euros for two nights with half board at the mountain hut is a bit steep to say the least. I can only hope Gigio gets a significant portion of that.
