FAQs: Mountain Climbing in Peru

What should I know about Mountain Climbing Peru?

Situated on the western coast of South America, Peru is home to the Andes Mountains and is an incredible mountain climbing destination.

At 6,768 meters in elevation, Huascaran is the country’s highest peak and an excellent challenge for intermediate and advanced moutnaineers However, there are plenty of other options outside of this peak. Many mountain climbers like to take a few days and climb several different peaks. Climbing Nevados Maparaju, Huapi and Ishinca is among the most popular of these multi-peak climbs.

Outside of the aforementioned areas, Cusco is another popular spot for mountain climbing expeditions. Pachatusan (4,842 meters), Salcantay (6,271 meters) and Sahuasiray (5,818 meters) are all popular climbing destinations.

**Machu Picchu **

Don’t leave Peru without heading to Cusco and seeing Machu Picchu. The former Inca citadel is a spectacular sight and no matter how many photos you seen, it’s way better in person. This UNESCO World Heritage site should be right up on your to-do list when you come here, so make some time to head over either before or after your mountain climbing trip.

Disappointed with the whole experience. Didn't climb with Juventino, never met him. Got a different guide. Booked Pisco and Chopicalcui as separate climbs with one day off in between to rest. Agency combined the climbs. They told me to of go from Pisco BC directly to Chopicalcui moraine camp. Got a different guide who didn't tell me that we'll get snowed in at moraine camp. Only found out about the snow once we reached Chopicalcui moraine camp. Spent the night there, next day had to go down. Disappointed rebooked my flight and left Peru. Waste of my time and money.
