FAQs: Rock Climbing in Italy

What should I know about Rock Climbing Italy?

There are so many incredible rock climbing spots in the Dolomites that it would take an entire lifetime to experience them all. Outside of the aforementioned ones, here are a few others that are worth checking out.

Val di Fassa, in the center of the range, is a good starting point for climbers heading to the Catinaccio group. Known for its pink hue, caused by the dolomite mineral in the rock, this spot is a particularly popular climb later in the day when the sunset brings out the color of the dolomite.

Sitting in front of the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo is the town of Auronzo di Cadore, which offers access to Monte Paterno. Atop this peak are unparalleled views of the iconic triple summited massif, which keeps the peak at the very top of the bucket list of rock climbers heading to the Dolomites.

Etienne is a very experience local guide who knows the area very well. He guided my boyfriend and I for 2 days. The first day, we went on a 13 multi-pitch climb up Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Etienne guided us up the mountain efficiently and safely while also taking time to explain to us some basic mountaineering concepts and our surrounding mountains. We started at 7am and was rappeling down by 3pm as he had originally estimated. The 2nd day was a more casual single pitch sport day where Etienne gave us some private instructions on how to efficiently climb outside using more legs and less arms. We are very happy with the service Etienne provided, he had great communication skills and spoke great english. We would consider him for future guided trips in the area again.

Etienne was an excellent rock climbing guide and also thoroughly enjoyable company throughout our climb. We climbed Dibona Arete on Cime Grande together. A wonderful climb, although for me some challenging moves which I only completed because Etienne was taking great care of belaying me. I've no hesitation in recommending Etienne. Very well organised by explore-share.com too.

Giovanni was an exceptionally wonderful guide! Our family spent the day with him climbing in Cinque Torri. He was incredibly patient with our children, and was able to find routes that we all enjoyed climbing. We loved every minute of the day and would recommend this trip to any family interested in doing some sport climbing near Cortina/Cinque Torri.

Its important to look at reviews of each guide to choose the best experience. Look no further. Etienne Bernard is flexible, safe, personable, proactive, and HIGHLY experienced. Although it was snowy and frigid, Etienne helped me persevere up the a 600' climb. He was very encouraging, I never felt unsafe, and I fully recommend his guiding services. I hope everyone looking to climb, ski, or hike in the Dolomites, Italy is able to having Etienne as their guide.
