FAQs: Rock Climbing in United States

What should I know about Rock Climbing United States?

The US is an extremely diverse country and is home to just about every type of landscape imaginable. As a result, rock climbing can be found in numerous forms across the country.

No matter where you are coming from or what kind of time frame you have to work with, you’ll almost certainly find something. Right outside of New York City, the Shawangunk Ridge has some great trad and sport climbing spots. Farther afield in the Northeast, New York’s Adirondack Mountains, New Hampshire’s White Mountains and Maine’s eastern seaboard also offer plenty of climbing opportunities.

Take any major city of a western state and you’re sure to find rock climbing around there too. Denver, Colorado is right on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. There are plenty of rock climbing activities all over the state. Cheyenne, Wyoming; Salt Lake City, Utah; Santa Fe, New Mexico; both Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada; and Los Angeles and Sacramento, California are all in similar situations.

Wherever you go in the US, it is best to rent a car. Public transportation is not as common as it is in other parts of the world. Renting a car gives you the freedom to explore more of wherever it is you are going and save time too.

Why should I choose United States for my Rock Climbing adventure?

Stunning scenery

Wherever you choose to go rock climbing in the US, you’re sure to be treated to excellent views. From the breathtaking views of sequoias in eastern California and stunning vistas over the sparkling desert in Utah to the immaculate greens and blues of the Cascades, you’re sure to have an unforgettable trip wherever you go in this massive country.

Enjoy the variety

The US is massive. There are plenty of different options for those who seek them. Alpine climbing is easily accessible in destinations as unique as Alaska, Oregon and Colorado. Simple trad climbing is abundant from New York to California. And sport climbing is available almost anywhere in the above states and beyond.

Excellent exercise

Rock climbing is a great work out for both body and mind. The sport exercises your upper body and core muscles and requires endurance. It also keeps your mind sharp as you constantly must adapt as you go up the rock. The fresh, clean air in the US is a great place reason to go out and climb.

What can I expect from the weather in United States?

This depends on where you go. From spring to autumn, places such as California and UTah will be hot and dry, with average summer temperatures between 25ºC and 30ºC. In locales such as the Cascades or New York, summers will generally be a bit cooler, but there is also a much higher chance of rain.
