This is a tour to introduce you to the mossy wonderland.
Shiratani-Unsuikyo is known as being the model of the beautiful mossy forest in the animation film “Princess Mononoke“(1997). Japanese tourists also really love to be a part of this fantastic and mystique scenery.
Depending on how long you would like to explore the forest, we can arrange a long one day trek or short half day trek.
For those in search of a more relaxed itinerary, we can trek for about 3 hours in the forest, and then I can drive you around the island for sightseeing afterwards too!
Let me guide you and help you fully enjoy this beautiful island, that is Yakushima. I am very happy guiding in English and would love to share the local stories and cultures with you!
Total walking distance: 3-5 km.
Altitude: 600m-1,050m
I can pick you up at several meeting places (7:30 am at Ono-aida, 8:00 am at Anbo port and 8:30 am at Miyano-ura port). We will walk up to Taiko-Iwa (Drum Stone: 1,050m), from which, you can enjoy the magnificent view of both the broad deep green valley and the highest peaks of Yakushima. We take the same route to return, but if you would like to stay longer in the forest, we can take another route.
