Description

If you are up for wild and remote adventures, then you will love this 2-week Greenland Arctic Circle Trail skiing expedition. This amazing challenge will allow you to experience the wonders of the Arctic winter, and also prepare for more challenging experiences ahead.

This tour takes place in two parts. First, you will join a 5-day preparation course in Golsfjellet in Norway. The 2024 dates for the training course are from 2-7 of January. Then, in March, we will meet again in Greenland to traverse from Sisimut to the Russel Glacier.

We will begin at Kangerlussuaq airport and end in Greenland’s second-largest city, Sisimiut. You can fly direct from Copenhagen. Once there, before we actually head to our trail We will be using Nordic BC Skis and sleeping in specialized winter tents that will be provided. We will set off on our own north route, off the established scooter/sled route, to avoid traffic and noise. A large section of the Arctic Circle Trail will take us through Aasivissuit-Nipisat, a UNESCO world heritage site**.** In the last few days, we will return to the established route until we reach Sisimut. You can find a detailed itinerary below.

Please keep in mind that this is a demanding and challenging program.  Not only is it long, but it is also difficult because you will be skiing and sleeping in tents in extreme winter conditions. All participants will contribute actively to setting up camp, cooking, and melting snow for water. The daily skiing distance will be between 10 to 15 kilometers per day. The temperature can range from minus 10-30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, you will need to be mentally prepared for dealing with the cold temperatures and be physically fit. Of course, you will not be alone and it will be incredibly rewarding.

This is a great experience for those that want a true ski expedition in the heart of the Arctic. Furthermore, it is a great training ground for more challenging adventures, such as the Greenland Ice Cap crossing, as you will have the chance to learn basic winter camping, navigation, and safety routines.

Nature Guide

Arctic Nature Guide

My name is Kristian Salomonsen, and I am originally from Denmark.
As a child, I lived 2 years in Greenland, where I developed a strong passion for the outdoors. After finishing high school in Denmark, I moved to Norway to study arctic outdoor life (friluftsliv) at “Øytun Folkehøgskole” for one year. Then, I moved to Svalbard for a one-year “Arctic Nature Guide” study program which certifies guides to be able to lead tent based multi-day hiking trips in arctic climates. When I finished, I started working as a glacier guide and instructor during the summer season, leading many glacier hiking trips in southern Norway. From 2014 onward, I spent my summers working as an alpine climbing guide/instructor at Nordnorsk Klatreskole (Lofoten Mountain Guides), in Lofoten, northern Norway.

Greenland is like a second home to me, and I am looking very much forward to share many nature experiences with you in this awe-inspiring location!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
