The stunning Mera Peak in the Himalayas is a popular mountaineering destination. Although some consider it a trekking destination, trekking being a little easier than mountaineering, don’t be fooled. It is popular, it can be done, but it does need preparation and proper guidance! It is also a beautiful spot with stunning sights and the Nepalese culture to revel in. On this 18 day expedition to the Mera Peak Summit, I will gladly show you and help you on a safe a beautiful journey in the Himalayas!

We begin our trip in Kathmandu. This stunning city is well worth discovering and we will have some time to explore it. From there, we will take a short plane ride to Lukla and we will catch some breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Lukla will be our starting point on our mountaineering circuit from where we will begin our slow ascent up Mera. From then on, we will go gaining altitude little by little every day.  On our way we will go through beautiful bamboo and rhododendron forests as we also encounter the world famous Nepalese mountain culture. And, when we reach the summit we will have views of 5 Himalayan peaks including the Everest! We have also included some acclimatisation rest days in our schedule as it is very important to allow the body to adjust to the high altitudes. These are the Himalayas after all!

Because the ascent to the Mera is not too steep, this is an excursion that is quite accessible compared to other more challenging climbs in the region. However, prior preparation and a good fitness condition is an absolute must.  Due to the high altitudes, it is also a good idea to try some easier trekking and mountain climbing before attempting the Mera. Of course, I will be there every step of the way to guide and help you and you will go acquiring mountaineering techniques on the expedition.

Are you ready to ascend to the summit of a stunning Himalayan Peak? Then book your place now and join me on this 18-day ascent of the beautiful Mera!

Would you like to try another, slightly more challenging, Himalayan summit? Then join me on this 23-day Rolwaling Valley and Parchamo Peak tour.

    About the Guide

I was born in Kranj, Slovenia. I am a biology teacher and I also have been a professional alpinist for more than 30 years. Until now, I’ve reached 4 eight-thousanders around the world: Broad Peak, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri and Mount Everest.

In fact, I am the first (and still only) Slovenian female reaching ‘the roof of the world’. Together with my husband Andrej, we entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the first married couple to stand on Mt Everest.

Beyond the Himalayas, I climbed in Alaska, South America and Japan, among other places.

Sport climbing as well as competition and rock climbing have a very important place in my life and have taken me to many incredible and challenging places around the world.
