Explore the stunning Southern Alps in New Zealand by setting up camp in cozy mountain huts to access pristine powder.

Take the reigns of your own tour by deciding where in the Southern Alps you wish to explore.

Tour through breathtaking scenery and ski along the world-class slopes of the Southern Alps, which extend 500 kilometers across the South Island of New Zealand.

It is home to 16 summits that stretch beyond 3,000 meters, with the crown peak of 3,724 meters on Mount Cook.

This presents you a long list of possibilities, which include Wanaka. Lying in the heart of the Southern Alps, Wanaka is one of the country’s best skiing terrains. Whether you’re an intermediate or expert, the abundance of slopes makes it an ideal place to explore.

A second option is the 10-kilometer Arrowsmith Range that reaches its highest point at 2,781 meters. Based at the high-alpine Cameron Hut, it is closely connected with great slopes.

Fox Glacier is a 20-kilometer glacier that slides down the Southern Alps’ forested foothills, reaching a temperate rainforest at 300 meters above sea level. The glacier offers great skiing opportunity with stunning scenery all the way to the ocean.

Its smaller twin, the Franz Josef Glacier, descends 12 kilometers around the World Heritage Site of Te Wahipounamu. Both the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers offer a variety of skiing for all levels, from steep skiing to neve runs.

And of course, the Aoraki Mount Cook is the crown of the Southern Alps, which pierces the clouds at 3,754 meters. As a magnet for mountaineer enthusiasts and skiers, it offers a rich range of slopes. As a warm-up for his monumental mountaineering conquest, Edmund Hillary ascended Aoraki Mount Cook before climbing Everest.

About the Guide

Ski Guiding and Ski Instruction are passions of mine. I started working as a guide in the late 1980's and started working in the ski game in the early 1980's.

Most of my trips are hut based in the Wanaka, Aoraki/Mt. Cook and Upper Fox/Franz regions. But trips can be arranged in the Arrowsmiths (Cameron Glacier). I also work in Aspen in the northern winter primarily cat skiing and on piste ski instruction for all ability levels.

My specialties include heliskiing, ski touring and avalanche safety.

For once in a lifetime opportunities kindly reach out via email and should I be already booked my colleagues in both New Zealand and Colorado can help you to enjoy a wonderful adventure in the winter environment.
