Description

Come to Santa Cruz and enjoy this fantastic and classic trekking tour.

During 4 unforgettable days we’ll walk through the Santa Cruz Valley via the Punta Union Pass at 4750 meters of height. You won’t believe such an amazing scenery of the espectacular peaks of the Cordillera Blanca and the skirting turquoise glacial lakes around.

If you want to fully enjoy this trek I always recommend to arrive¬†Huaraz at least two days before the starting of the program. It’s important that you spend some previous time hiking to higher points in order to acclimatize your body and mind to the new altitude. If you wish I can help you organize those hiking days as well.

As for the physical level you should have a good fitness condition. Keep in mind that his trek is considered as a moderate adventure. That means that, although there is not technical difficulty, we must trek several hours per day (between 5 and 8 hours) and face long ascents and descents.

Anyway, I can adapt the trip to your level and timing. There is no pressure to keep up with the fastest walkers. There will be always a guide accompanying you.

So if you want to be part of this fantastic 4-day hike in Santa Cruz, please send me your request to book the trip. I’ll be waiting for your message!

Itinerary

Day 1

Huaraz - Cashapampa - Llamacorral Camp

I will pick you up at your accommodation to begin the journey with a spectacular scenic drive along the Callejon de Huaylas, in direction to Cashapampa (2900 m) which is the starting point of the trek (3 hours drive). From here we start to walk stopping form time to time to take photos along the way. Ascending steeply for about 2 hours, we’ll climb steadily along the Quebrada Santa Cruz to camp at Llamacorral (3750 m). Total walking time: 5 hours.

Day 2

Taullipampa Camp

An easier hike up the Santa Cruz valley to our Taullipampa Camp (4250 m). It will take us 5 hours. The trail is generally flat. We’ll only ascend the last hour towards the camp, passing by the beautiful Jatuncocha Lake. Our camp is situated near the base of the Nevado Taulliraju, surrounded by other peaks such as Paria, Artseonraju, Rinrijirca, Quitaraju and Alpamayo.

Day 3

Punta Union Pass - Huaripampa Valley - Paria

We’ll ascend steadily for about 3 hours on a good trail to Punta Union Pass. Here we can feel the effects of the altitude. From the pass we’ll have very close views of the big mountains of the Cordillera Blanca. Time to descend passing two small lakes and then coming down into the Huaripampa Valley to the camping site Paria (3890 m). Total walking time: 7 hours.

Day 4

Huaripampa - Vaqueria - Huaraz

An easy walk down the Huaripampa Valley where we will pass by many farm houses and meet a lot of local people, children, sheep, caws, goats and donkeys on the path. We will then ascend for about an hour to Vaqueria (3700 m). Here we’ll take our private transport over the Portachuelo Pass (4767 m) and then, down the steep zigzag road to the beautiful lake of Llanganuco. After about 4 hours of driving we’ll return to Huaraz.
