If you are an aspiring mountaineer looking to learn essential alpine skills and techniques, then this course is perfect for you!
In order to safely and successfully summit any alpine mountain, it is critical to take the time to learn the basics. This course is especially designed for beginning mountaineers as well as experienced rock climbers who are looking to familiarize themselves with how to move on snow and ice in an alpine environment. With my expert instruction, you will come away from this trip with the foundation you will need for all your future alpine mountaineering adventures.
We will be based in the wilderness outside of Whistler/Squamish during this 4 day program. Specific topics we will cover include: navigation skills, glacier travel theory and practice, crevasse rescue procedures, equipment, ice and crampon techniques, and more. The course will include plenty of instruction and theory, but we will also have ample time to practice what we have learned. In fact, we will dedicate an entire day to practicing our ice climbing skills and summiting a mountain. For the complete outline of the course, see the day-by-day itinerary below.

We will meet in Squamish or Whistler for gear check. From there, we transfer to the mountains and hike to our campsite on foot. Once we arrive, we will learn about navigation skills and basic knots
We will spend the day learning about: Snow travel, ice axe and crampon techniques, using ropes to travel on glaciers, glacier travel theory, how to construct snow and ice anchors, and finally crevasse rescue procedures
We will put into practice everything we learned the previous two days as we head toward a summit and/or ice climbing route
Before departing the mountains, we will have a chance to continue practicing our crevasse rescue skills or review any other topic we discussed during the preceding days
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
