  • Capture the spirit of the Alps as you explore the great and rewarding terrain.

  • Benefit from having a fully-qualified guide accompanying you along the way.

The central mountains of Switzerland are cloaked in thick blankets of fresh snow forming a winter wonderland for skiing trips.

We’ll be using the mountain hut of Voralphütte, which lies at 2,126 meters, and is a brilliant springboard for exploring the Uri Alps.

Part of the Western Alps, the mountain range of the Uri Alps extend through the cantons of Bern, Obwalden, Valais, Nidwalden and its namesake Uri.

From our cosy surroundings in the hut, the many surrounding alpine mountains are easily accessible.

On our first day we’ll climb from Realp to the Albert-Heim Hut, which lies at 2,544 meters and is perched on a rocky outcrop.

The second day takes us to Lochberg, which features a very lengthy and pleasant descent to Göscheneralpsee and is an excellent section for skiing.

We’ll ski into several touring opportunities with varied climbs that we’ll be able to choose between depending on the level of ability and experience.

One of the most dramatic highlights on the tour is tackling the Sustenhorn, a 3,502-meter mountain standing at the border between the Swiss cantons of Uri and Bern.

While we’ll enjoy another long and varied descent from the mountain of Stucklistock that overlooks the valley of Meiental which is our final destination.

  • Day 2Varied descents

After breakfast we start at the foot of the Sunnig Berg 2,381m. Over a short steep step we climb to the winter gap 2,854m high. The last few meters to the summit of Lochberg 3,074m we start on foot. The varied descent to Göscheneralptal hopefully reward us with powder snow. From the dam we reach over the road to the Voralp curve. There we hike again and climb up to the Voralphütte SAC 2,126m.

Today we tackle the Sustenhorn 3,502m. We climb up to the Flachensteinfirn over the wide eastern slopes. On foot we climb over the Chelenalplücke 3,092m. After the gap, continue to Sustenlimi and head northeast over the summit to the finish. On the same route we enjoy the wide slopes back to the alpine pasture SAC.

The couloir we will overcome on foot and then ski in the gap. We climb to the summit via good-grip rocks. The descent on the northeast side into the Meiental to Fürlaui (1,338m) is lonely and wild. By taxi we go to Wassen and there by bus to Erstfeld.
