This 4-day ski touring trip in Shirouma and Renge-Onsen will take you to an amazing backcountry terrain in Japan.
Mount Shirouma (2932 m) is part of the Japanese Alps and is located in the central area of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. It lies in the border between the Nagano and Toyama Prefectures, inside the Chūbu-Sangaku National Park.
The backcountry ski terrain in this area is incredible. The famous Japanese dry powder combines with steep slopes and incredible mountain huts.
Plus, this program has the amazing extra feature of skiing right to the Renge-Onsen hot springs, a place to relax after a hard day out in the slopes!
So, I’ll pick you up from Nagano Station and drive to the Shirouma ski area, where we’ll start our 4-day ski touring trip to the Hakuba mountain top hut, then to Yukikura and Renge-Onsen and finally to the Tsugaike ski resort.
We’ll stay in comfortable mountain huts, where the Japanese hospitality and delicious home made cuisine will conquer your heart.
Sounds like an amazing adventure? It is! Send me a request now and we’ll start planning your visit to this amazing spot in Honshu, Japan. You’ll spend an unforgettable time in the mountains!

I am an IFMGA mountain guide, also certified by the JMGA, born in Slovenia. Slovenia is known as one of the major sporting countries in the world - I used to compete at the Olympics representing Slovenia in Cross-country Skiing. After I left Slovenia, I travelled all over the world and ended up in Japan, where I have now lived for more than 20 years, mainly because I love the beautiful Japanese mountains too much, and I feel privileged to be able to enjoy these mountains through the entire four seasons.
I am based at the foot of the Japan Alps, in Nagano Prefecture. In the winter, we go climbing or skiing around Mt. Fuji or Yatsugatake and in the summer, we can enjoy shower-climbing or canoeing. It is my absolute pleasure to also take you and guide you in my home country in Slovenia.
In addition to guiding the mountains, I also enjoy having the opportunity to teach mountain climbing skills to every level of climbers. This is because I want everyone to enjoy Japanese mountains safely.
I am the first non-Japanese mountain guide registered with the Japan Mountain Guide Association. Please contact me if you would love to have great experiences in the mountains in all seasons with me!
