  • Discover the ancient mountains of Iceland, the home of fire and ice.

  • Ski tour though some of the most picturesque mountain scenes.

  • Benefit from having a fully-qualified guide leading the way.

Resting at the edge of the Arctic Circle, and being a refuge for smouldering geysers, volcanoes and bubbling pools, Iceland is home to the stunning cocktail of fire and ice.

The country’s longest fjord, Eyjafjörður, is located in the north. Resting along the fjord is the town and unofficial capital of the north, Akureyri.

The port town is an important centre for fishing with origins that stretch back to the ninth century. Looking westwards to the Troll Peninsula, this is where we’ll be based. The peninsula is home to the country’s most beautiful ski touring mountains.

Peaks range from 900 meters to 1,500 meters on the Troll Peninsula. We’ll explore the wonderful wild nature blanketed in thick layers of snow and ice.

Ski touring Iceland will open up incredible scenery only found in Iceland, with its mixture of steaming volcanoes, crystal glaciers, bursting geysers and frozen waterfalls.

This wide open area guarantees snowfall so all options are open for us to explore. Each day we’ll decide as a group where we’ll want to go, depending on weather conditions.

As well as making some long descents we’ll have options for greater technical assistance, with lifts, snowcats and even a helicopter at our disposal to extend our reach into the mountains.

And when we’re not exploring the mountains, there are great opportunities to know the area in other ways. Go horseback riding, wale watching, visits museums, or relaxing in one of many bubbling hot pools.

Get in touch now to reserve your place in the pristine Icelandic mountains on an 8-day ski touring adventure.

6 nights in hotels, and 1 night in a lodge in Akureyri.

About the guide

guide profile img

In 1987 I became a certified mountain guide after an intense four-year training program at the Technical University of Munich, thus becoming the first guide from the Netherlands to be IFMGA-certified and probably worldwide one of the first guides not originating from an alpine country. As a guide, I do everything from beginner courses in the Alps to worldwide climbing expeditions to the Seven Summits.

Based in Switzerland, just a few kilometers from the French town of Chamonix, I offer customized programs, tailor-made for each of my clients. As an alpinist and mountain guide, I’ve participated in many succesful expeditions, including Mt. Everest (north and south sides), Cho Oyu and Shisha Pangma (Tibet), Aconcagua (Argentina), Yerupaja South Face and Huascaran (Peru), Ojos del Salado (Chile), Mt Hunter and Denali (Alaska), Elbrus (Russia) Carstensz Pyramid (West Papoua) and Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). I’ve led two UIAA expeditions for talented young climbers: one in China and one in Pakistan. Both were very successful and led to the opening of some new (and sometimes difficult) routes. I’m always looking for new and challenging ski areas and, in recent years, have specialized in ski safaris and ski touring in the Alps, Morocco, Canada, Chile and Scandinavia. Adventure skiing is my passion since a long time and the challenge is to find the best snow and safe skiing and have fun with the group in a remote location. A father of 2, in my spare time, I like to go skiing, mountain biking and climbing with friends and family.
