Join an IFMGA mountain guide for a 6-day climbing trip, ascending two technically simple 4000 meter peaks in the Saas Valley.
This is an exciting 6-day adventure climbing two peaks over 4000-meters in the Saas Valley. If you are looking for an experience in the Alps without extremely demanding climbs, this trip is for you!
The Saas Valley lies off the east of the Canton of Valais, in Switzerland. We’ll start our trip in Saas Fee, which is the main village in the valley.
From there, we’ll use cable cars to gain altitude: that will make our climbs easier! Nevertheless, the peaks we’re going to climb are technically simple and will not demand you an excessive effort, despite their height.
This time we’ll climb Allalinhorn (4027 m) and Weissmies (4017 m).
But before that you are going to learn some basic mountaineering skills, like using crampons on snow and walking in a rope. Besides, you’ll climb an impressive via ferrata!
During the night, we’ll stay in pleasant huts and a nice hotel.
For further details, you can find the complete itinerary for this trip below this description.

Mountain huts, hotel.
You don't need any previous experience. Good physical condition.
We’ll meet and check your equipment. Then, we’ll take the cable car to us Spielboden-Langflue. It is the appropriate place to learn how to walk on crampons and have a first contact with snow and ice. We’ll also learn to walk in the rope. By the end of the afternoon you’ll have the basics mastered for the next few days.
From the Mattmark reservoir we’ll start our run to the Britanniahütte (3030 m). Along the way we may use twice the crampons, which depends on the state of the snow on the Allalin- and Hohlaubgletsjer. (+ 850 altimeters).
We’ll start the day early.
Today we climb to the summit of the 4027 m high Allalinhorn. The climb is technically easy. We return via the same route.
We have a shower and fresh beer in our base camp. (+ 600 / – 600 altimeters)
“The Erlebnispfad” gives access to the Almagelleralp where we can picnic. After a short climb we reach the hilltop “blumenpfad” where we may find Edelweiss. We conclude this wonderful day in the Swiss exuberant nature in the cozy Weissmieshütte. (+ 850 altimeters)
We ascend Jägihorn (3206 m) through the impressive alpine via ferrata. It’s a tough climb, but you’ll have steel cables and ropes that will be enough support to make it a viable and safe challenge. (+ 850 vertical meters).
We’ll climb the 4017 m high Weissmies. We’ll follow the track in the snow running through a maze of crevasses in the glacier impressive grounds. If you still fancy a last adventure challenge after the descend, we recommend the “ Monstertrotti” that brings you in no time back in the valley.

Professional guide who carefully assessed our climbing and fitness abilities to get to the top unfortunately we came down a bit too fast and I fell and broke my big toe and was unable to attempt the Mont Blanc climb which was very disappointing because I felt ready to try. We felt challenged but relatively safe all of the time, the fall was an unfortunate mistake. Jan offered us additional training between the climbs to improve our chances on Mont Blanc which we really appreciated but were unable to take advantage of. We would climb with him again.
My first experience with alpinism but 100% worth it. Because of bad weather we couldn’t ascend the Mont Blanc but the backup program saved the trip. Learned a lot and seen mighty things. Overall, enjoyed a lot, a week we will never forget.
We had a marvellous week, it matched our expectations and we had souvenirs which will never fade away. The flexibility from our program because of the bad weather, was great, each time we had a discussion about what we could do and couldn’t. Reaching the top was always the goal. Also the fact I did this with my daughter gave it an extra dimension. We enjoyed every step because we were in good shape. Everybody insisted on this, but at the end, it turned out to be an advantage.
I had a very good time and it has been a fantastic week to fulfill my dream of Mont Blanc, with extra reward of the experience of climbing Gran Paradiso, both mountains are amazing and we are blessed by very good weather. And thanks to Jan and my guide, they are always there to encourage me during the hardest moment, without them I can\'t do this.
Extraordinary experience to stand on the top of Europe. Emotionality because of the beauty and natural ferocity going into your body creates definitely a unique fuddle. Afterwards I had regrets I could not stay longer on the top, especially because the weather was clear and mild. Grandiose!
Top trip !!! Stunning views from the top of Europe. Enjoyable guides with enough experience. Having some luck with the weather, you really have to do it. It’s enough to have a good physical condition and some perseverance. Fun to do but it’s suffering and pretty expensive.
We had all ingredients for a marvellous holiday. The good weather, together with the professional support of our guides, the sublime Alps and the Top of Mont-Blanc, made it an unforgettable experience.
Great. Gran Paradiso was a good preparation and off course a nice experience. The one day ice course was fun and very useful. Because of bad weather, I also would recommend this program, which existed of 3 chances the reach the summit. If we had chosen another program, we probably couldn’t reach summit. Now we did it in blue sky conditions! It’s the flexibility (3 summit chances 2 by 2) of the program which I liked the most. It’s an incredible experience and will always have a special place in my memories. It’s a super feeling to stand on the top of Europe. I really recommend the program (Gran Paradiso + Mont Blanc); not relying on other people and having a maximum chance to get to the top. (With a good condition off course). I had to sacrifice a lot, but it’s worth it.
By following this program, we realised the grandeur of the mountains and the awe that we need to have for this environment. The practical tips our guide gave us where very helpful, also for our upcoming adventures.
