Description

The Chilean Andes are home to the Lascar volcano. It is one of the most active volcanoes in this mountain range. Recently, it erupted in 2015. The strongest eruption of the last decades occurred in 1993.

Situated near San Pedro de Atacama, Lascar Volcano is one of the most climbed high altitude mountains in the world.

We can ascend up to 4900 meters by car. Then, the walk to its crater does not have technical difficulties. However, you shouldn’t underestimate the high altitude. I will take all the necessary measures for you to have a smooth ascent without altitude problems.

Some basic trekking experience is necessary, as well as being healthy and fit. Ideally, you should spend at least 2 nights in San Pedro de Atacama before the trip to improve your acclimatization.

I propose to you the following program for this 1-day adventure. We leave very early in the morning (5AM) from San Pedro de Atacama. A 3-hour drive takes us to the nice and quiet Lake Lejía (4350m), a stunning turquoise lake. Then we drive to the base of the Lascar Volcano (4900m). This is where the walk to the summit begins, which will take 3-4 hours. During the walk of 3 km, we discover breathtaking views and admire the smoky volcanic chimney. The descent takes around 1 hour, and then we drive back to San Pedro de Atacama.

Does this ascent to Lascar Volcano sound interesting? Then please get in touch with me so we can make a plan together!

We can also lead you to the top of Licancabur in San Pedro de Atacama!

About lead guide, Christian Fernandez:

I’m originally from Argentina, but live in Chile since 1998. Now I’m settled in the north of Chile, in San Pedro de Atacama, beautiful town in the heart of the Andean section of the dry Atacama dessert.

From there I organize many expeditions to beautiful peaks on a weekly basis. I’ve done more than 300 high altitude ascents, and more than 25 peaks over 6000 metres.

I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese.
