During the evening session I’ll introduce all the different ice climbing equipment and talk about the climbing process. We will then go over the main knots used in climbing (e.g. figure of eight, bowline, girth hitch and prussic knots) and learn how to set up main anchors. We’ll finish by making a travel plan for our ice climbing day out on the glacier.
During our day on the glacier, we go over the process of ice climbing and general climbing movements, such as how to use crampons and ice axes correctly. We will also practice making main anchors, V-threads and rappelling with a safety prussic. Climbing will be done with a top rope under the guidance of a climbing instructor.
