6-day guided climbing trip in the Bernina massif, crossing impressive glacial plateaus and ascending beautiful peaks in the east of Switzerland.
Join me for a 6-day climbing trip in the Bernina massif, crossing beautiful glacial plateaus and ascending through amazing ridges.
The Bernina massif stands in eastern Switzerland, in the region of St. Moritz.
This is a wonderful but less frequented mountain region, with charming mountain huts where you’ll have the chance of spending the night surrounded by nature.
One of the highlights of this trip will be crossing Piz Palü, a large glacier that has three summits joined by an impressive ridge. Here you’ll enjoy some fantastic views!
Besides, we’ll reach the top of Piz Bernina (4049 m), which is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps. Finally, we’ll climb Bellavista (3922 m), another mountain in the Bernina massif.
For this trip, I recommend you to have previous experience walking on crampons, as well as knowing how to manage in a snow terrain.
For further details, you can find a complete itinerary below this description.

You'll need experience using crampons. Good physical condition.
We’ll start from Morteratsch to Boval Hut (2495 m). Then we’ll go up through the glacier Vadret da Morteratsch. (+ 650 m)
Piz Morteratsch (3751 m) is the first ascent of this week. We descend down the other side until the new Cabane Tschierva (2600 m). (+ 1250 m / -1200 m)
Relative rest day with some lower trip to the Chamanna Coaz (2610 m). (-500 m / + 550 m)
Impressive glacier climb to the ridge of Piz Sella (3511 m) and descent through the Vedretta Superiore di Scerscen to Rifugio Marinelli-Bombardieri (2813 m). (+ 950 m / -750 m)
Today we climb to the highest point of this week. We begin with the crossing of a vast glacial plateau and continue with a rock and then mix terrain and snow ridge to the summit of Piz Bernina (4041 m). We sleep just below the summit in the separate Rifugio Marco et Rosa (3597 m). (+ 1250 m / -450 m)
We arrive to the awesome Bellavista Graat and exciting Piz Pallu crossing (3882 m). We descend through the Press glacier until the end station of the Diavolezza cable car that takes us back to civilization.

Professional guide who carefully assessed our climbing and fitness abilities to get to the top unfortunately we came down a bit too fast and I fell and broke my big toe and was unable to attempt the Mont Blanc climb which was very disappointing because I felt ready to try. We felt challenged but relatively safe all of the time, the fall was an unfortunate mistake. Jan offered us additional training between the climbs to improve our chances on Mont Blanc which we really appreciated but were unable to take advantage of. We would climb with him again.
My first experience with alpinism but 100% worth it. Because of bad weather we couldn’t ascend the Mont Blanc but the backup program saved the trip. Learned a lot and seen mighty things. Overall, enjoyed a lot, a week we will never forget.
We had a marvellous week, it matched our expectations and we had souvenirs which will never fade away. The flexibility from our program because of the bad weather, was great, each time we had a discussion about what we could do and couldn’t. Reaching the top was always the goal. Also the fact I did this with my daughter gave it an extra dimension. We enjoyed every step because we were in good shape. Everybody insisted on this, but at the end, it turned out to be an advantage.
I had a very good time and it has been a fantastic week to fulfill my dream of Mont Blanc, with extra reward of the experience of climbing Gran Paradiso, both mountains are amazing and we are blessed by very good weather. And thanks to Jan and my guide, they are always there to encourage me during the hardest moment, without them I can\'t do this.
Extraordinary experience to stand on the top of Europe. Emotionality because of the beauty and natural ferocity going into your body creates definitely a unique fuddle. Afterwards I had regrets I could not stay longer on the top, especially because the weather was clear and mild. Grandiose!
Top trip !!! Stunning views from the top of Europe. Enjoyable guides with enough experience. Having some luck with the weather, you really have to do it. It’s enough to have a good physical condition and some perseverance. Fun to do but it’s suffering and pretty expensive.
We had all ingredients for a marvellous holiday. The good weather, together with the professional support of our guides, the sublime Alps and the Top of Mont-Blanc, made it an unforgettable experience.
Great. Gran Paradiso was a good preparation and off course a nice experience. The one day ice course was fun and very useful. Because of bad weather, I also would recommend this program, which existed of 3 chances the reach the summit. If we had chosen another program, we probably couldn’t reach summit. Now we did it in blue sky conditions! It’s the flexibility (3 summit chances 2 by 2) of the program which I liked the most. It’s an incredible experience and will always have a special place in my memories. It’s a super feeling to stand on the top of Europe. I really recommend the program (Gran Paradiso + Mont Blanc); not relying on other people and having a maximum chance to get to the top. (With a good condition off course). I had to sacrifice a lot, but it’s worth it.
By following this program, we realised the grandeur of the mountains and the awe that we need to have for this environment. The practical tips our guide gave us where very helpful, also for our upcoming adventures.
