The Chopicalqui is a challenging summit at 6.345 meters of height in the Cordillera Blanca, Perú. It is located between the peaks Huascaran and Contrahierbas, in Yungay province and it’s the highest mountain in the region.
Due to its altitude, from the Chopicalqui’s summit we can admire several Andean villages. Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju and Yanapaccha are some of them.
If you want to join me for this amazing program you must have a good physical condition and some mountaineering experience. That way you’ll fully enjoy each step of the journey.

Starting point - Llanganuco
We will drive during 3 hours towards our first point: the Llanganuco valley. It is an amazing mountain ridge in the Huascaran National Park. After that, we will reach up to 4.250 meters to set our camp and spend the night.
Early in the morning we will start our hike up with the objective of getting to a point from where we can have a perfect view of other peaks like Huadoy or Charajaru. By the end of the day we will overnight in a Morena Camp at 4.800 meters.
It will be an intensive day since we have to climb some rocky slopes during the first 50 minutes of the morning until we get to the glacier. After that, we will put our ice climbing equipment on, in order to continue with the following 3 hours up to the campsite at 5.500 m.
In our fourth day we will have the challenge of reaching to the Chopicalqui Summit. For that, we will leave the camp very early in the morning because six hours of intensive climb are waiting for us. Once in the highest point of the mountain we will enjoy such a viewpoint at more than 6.000 meters and then, we’ll return to the Morena Camp to rest.
Back to Huaraz
We will hike down to Llanganuco again where a transfer will be waiting for us to return to the town of Huaraz, the final point of this amazing trip.
