Description

Chopicalqui Mountain is a challenging summit at 6.345 meters of height in the amazing Cordillera Blanca. It is placed between Huascaran Peak and Contrahierbas Peak, in the Peruvian province of Yungay. Due to its height, from the summit we can admire Andean villages such as Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju and Yanapaccha. That’s why during this 5-day climbing expedition you won’t believe such amazing viewpoints.

Although you will need a very good physical training and some mountain experience, I can guarantee you will live the best five hiking and climbing days of your life. Chopicalqui is the fourth highest peak of Cordillera Blanca and there we go! Keep reading the following interesting itinerary of the trip in order to join me in this unforgettable experience.

DAY 1: STARTING POINT
We will drive during three hours towards our first point: Llanganuco valley. It is an amazing mountain ridge in the Huascaran National Park. After that, we will reach up to 4.250 meters to set our camp and spend the night.

DAY 2: HIKE DAY
Early in the morning we will start our hike up with the objective of getting to a point from where we can have a perfect sight of other peaks like Huadoy or Charajaru. By the end of the day we will overnight in Morena Camp at 4.800 meters.

DAY 3: CLIMB TO THE GLACIER
It will be an intensive journey because we have to climb some rocky slopes during the first 50 minutes of the morning until we get to the glacier. After that, we will put our ice climbing equipment on, in order to continue with the following 3 hours up to the campsite at 5.500 m.

DAY 4: SUMMIT DAY
In our fourth day we will have the challenge of reaching to the Chopicalqui Summit. For that, we will leave the camp very early in the morning because six hours of intensive climb are waiting for us. Once in the highest point of the mountain we will enjoy such a viewpoint at more than 6.000 meters and then, we return to Morena Camp to rest.

DAY 5: ENDING POINT
We will hike down to Llanganuco again where a transfer will be waiting for us to return to the town of Huaraz, the final point of this amazing trip.

I am sure you won’t doubt in getting in touch with me and plan your next trip across the Cordillera Blanca and its magnificent Chopicalqui peak.
