Cho Oyo is the world‘s sixth highest mountain and considered by many as the easiest of the fourteen 8000 meters peaks.
This is mainly due to the ease of access which is achieved using vehicles to the base of the mountain and then a 2-day trek in hiking boots to the base camp at 5600m. The climbing route has only a few short technical sections yet is direct, allowing climbers to gain altitude without covering a lot of distance.
As with all ascents at high altitude the climbing is strenuous and requires a high standard of fitness but for a 1st 8000m experience, Cho Oyu is ideal.
A small team of Sherpa’s will accompany the expedition to provide the required carrying power and ensuring the high camps are well provisioned.
My familiarity with the mountain and my ability to transcend the logistical hurdles, as well as providing excellent base camp food and comfort, makes the possibility of taking those final steps onto an 8201m.
This expedition takes on average 6 weeks.
