Climb via the Krma Valley route

Description

Mount Triglav (2864m) is the highest mountain in Slovenia and, as such, deserves its own program. It’s a very popular place in my country. This is a mountain that you have to climb at least once in your life. I’m here to help you do it!

My group tours are a great opportunity for single climbers or for climbers who are part of a small group. These group outings run on Sundays/Mondays and Wednesdays/Thursdays from June 20th till the end of September (if you can’t leave on these dates, you can hire me for a private ascent).

I am an IFMGA mountain guide, which gives you additional safety. Unfortunately, you should know some agencies in Slovenia work with unlicensed guides. They are usually students and have no guiding experience at all.

As part of these groups, you’ll climb Triglav via Krma Valley, the easiest way to the summit. There are around 2000m of ascent and descent, which should take us around 12-18 hours over two days. Be prepared to start the adventure at 7AM on the first day and finish at 4PM on the second day. Of course the time of departure and return is not fixed (it may vary depending on the weather conditions) but it will stay around this schedule.

Krma Valley – 2 days

We start and finish the trek in Krma valley. We will sleep in Triglavski dom, from where we climb to the top. From there, we can descend via Planika hut, making a small circle.

Day 1: 5-7 h walking and 1500 m of altitude change. Day 2: 3-5 h from the hut (Triglavski dom) to the top and return, plus 4 h down to the valley.

There is via ferrata (path equipped with wires and pitons) just from the hut to the top and return.

You may also be interested in a private climbing tour in Triglav. In that case, I can offer you these climbing options.

And you can climb Triglav in winter as well. However, the only good option is to do it from Krma valley. You’ll find all the details on my special program of winter climbing in Mount Triglav.

If you have an interest in climbing this beautiful mountain, please get in touch with me. We will take the time to discuss the itinerary and the program!

If you look for accommodation for the day before or after the ascent, I suggest you go to Hotel Kotnik.

More info

The accommodation, meals and drinks are around 65€ per person. The hut is very comfortable and has blankets, sheets and mattresses.

This equipment list will help you while packing for the ascent of Mt Triglav. You don't need to have everything on the list. Technical equipment (helmet, harness…) is provided by me. The list is: harness, helmet, headlamp, warm clothing (fleece, etc.), waterproof jacket and trousers, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, shoes, poles, backpack (30 L), water bottle, medicine prescribed by your doctor, camera, energy bars, chocolates, other food for during the climb, Alpine Club membership card.

  • There are limited options for renting boots in Slovenia, so I recommend that you bring your own. If you don't have them, I can send you some links to the rental shops (there is only one in Bohinj which has all sizes).

Meeting point

We will meet in Krma valley.

Mountain Guide

I am a IFMGA certified mountain guide, ski instructor, and sports teacher.

I believe guides do their best job when they guide in the mountains they are most familiar with. That is one of the biggest reasons why I specialize in guiding in Slovenia. I climb Triglav more than 25 times per year, which means I have climbed the most famous peak in my country around 400 times.

If you want to climb or ski in the Slovenian mountains, I am the right choice. I guide via ferrata, rock climbing, snow climbing, ice climbing, hikes, freeride skiing, and ski touring. Most of my summer work involves climbing Triglav, and most of my winter work involves Triglav and ski touring around it.

Slovenia offers good options for all of these activities, so you are welcome to take a look at my trips and find something for yourself. If you don't find anything, let me know, and I will see if I can help you!

I speak English. Ich spreche auch ein bisschen Deutsch. Parlo anche un po' di Italiano e hablo también un poco de Español.

If I am not available to guide you, one of the super experienced guides in my team will be your guide.

My main guide Rok and his helper guide Cveto were outstanding. Both were very attentive to personal and group needs. Safety is obviously a major factor in their guiding. I would recommend them and Explore-Share for any experience they offer.

Climbing with Mitja was such a great experience! There was still some snow on the mountain and there had been strong thunderstorms the day before we left, however Mitja was very reassuring and kept in regular contact leading up to the trip re details and weather forecast. We felt 100% safe trekking with him, and had the most amazing time!
