Description

Cresta del Diablo (“Devil’s Ridge” in English) is one of the most important ridges in Tena Valley. It is also famous for being the most difficult climbing route of the classic Pyrenean ridge. This is due to its granite rock of excellent quality, product of the great variety of climbing steps and the spectacular frame that surrounds it: the Balaitús massif.

The Balaitús massif divides the Spanish Valley of Tena and the French Val d’Azun. It is a very important massif since its presence marks the western beginning of the High Pyrenees. It seems that the name of the massif comes from the Occitan gascón language “vath” (valley) and “leitosa” (milky).

Regarding the level of this 2 day trip to Cresta del Diablo, it is a technical ascent. That is why it is mandatory to have previous experience as well as a good physical condition.

The best period to climb Cresta del Diablo is from June till October. During this season I also guide many other similar programs in the region, like this 2-day climb to the Alba Peak.
