Located in the province of Cartago, Turrialba offers a dazzling landscape with its own volcano (the Turriabla Volcano), a butterfly farm and the Guayabo National Monument. It is also very close to the stunning Irazu Volcano, which we recommend you visit.
The Guayabo National Monument is an archeological site that was built approximately 3,000 years ago. The hike around the area will take us through a beautiful rainforest where we might spot toucans, brown jays, armadillos, squirrels, and coatis. We’ll also explore the petroglyphs and tombs in the area. There is still no clear reason as to why the population that used to live in the site disappeared, which adds some mystery to the adventure.
