The mountains and valleys around Isafjordur offer the enthusiastic walker some great opportunities of hiking among pure nature. The views over the picturesque town of Isafjordur are spectacular. The sheer mountains on both side take on a different shape with every step of the way.

I am inviting you to a 4-hour hiking expedition of moderate difficulty. The guaranteed departures are on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from the 15th of May to 15th of September, for minimum 2 persons. If you are interested in this Icelandic adventure, keep reading the following itinerary:

Our meeting point will be at the Borea Adventures office on Aðalstræti 17. The trip begins with a short bus ride up to the ski area of Seljalandsdalur, where we start the walk.

The route takes us along mountain lakes, crystal clear streams and patches of fluorescent moss. After an hour walk, we get to the base of the mountain with the Þjófatindar Peaks as background landscape. We zig-zag up to the pass between the peaks for a spectacular view of the surrounded mountains and fjords.

After breaking for refreshments, we’ll continue down into the valley on the other side of the pass. We will get to the town of Hnífsdalur, where we’ll be picked up and driven back to Isafjordur.

We recommend to bring with you the following equipment:

  • Warm outdoor clothing
  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Hiking boots
  • A cap
  • Day backpack
  • Water bottle.
  • Your camera!

The price of the trip is ISK 15,900 per person for a group of 12 participants maximum.  You can ask me any doubt you have or contact me in order to book your place for the following departure dates. I would like to be your guide in this amazing hike to valley to valley in Isafjordur.

About the guide

guide profile img

I hold a degree in geography and started my guiding career as a mountain biking and hiking guide in the summer for different adventure companies in Iceland. I also worked as a tourism consultant for few years but felt it was time to put my skills into practice and put up an adventure operation in cooperation with other good people.

I was a boy scout when I was younger and learned to love the outdoors, especially the mountains. Skiing, ice & rock climbing and kayaking are my favorite sports and a part of his job. I have for years led mountaineering and avalanche SAR courses for the Icelandic Rescue Team Association.

Among other things, I have scaled 6000 m peaks in Peru, done skiing and kayaking expeditions in Greenland, climbed in the Alps few times and done paragliding in the Pyrenees.

I have finished WFR first aid training, hold a BCU 4 star kayaking certificate, have finished my marine CTCW training to be qualified as a professional crew member and Canadian Level I and Level II avalanche training.

My great experience and expertise means that you're in safe hands.
