Highlights

Do you want to get to the top of a 4000er? This program, an introduction to mountaineering, is perfect for you! The ascent of the beautiful Dome des Ecrins (4015m) is a must.

To success in summiting this peak, I organized a full program. In fact, it includes acclimatization, practicing how to progress on glaciar terrain, rock climbing school… By objective is to allow you to feel confident about the basic techniques, therefore enjoying the ascent!

And comfort is also part of the program, as we will sleep in good accommodations and enjoy tasty meals.

On the first day we arrive to La Grave, by cablecar to one of the glaciers. It’s a very beautiful area of the Ecrins massif and we start learning techniques right away. Then we go up to the Pic du Glacier d’Arsine (3364m). It’s a perfect ascent to acclimatize, looking forward to our final objective.

We will definitely save energy to try the ascent of Dome des Ecrins on the day with the best weather conditions. Ideally it will be the last day, but we can adapt it.

The Dome is an ideal summit to reach your first 4000er. And it’s definitely a beautiful outing in the mountains. You will go back home fit and tanned!

The main reasons why I like guiding my friends and clients here are:
    – The ice practice on the Girose glacier with amazing views over La Meije
    – The ascent of Dome des Ecrins in a magnificent environment
    – There will be one guide every 3 people (so if you are more than 3 a friend guide will join us)

Tempted to try your first 4000er? Then don’t hesitate to send me a request and specify which date suite you! If you come as a group you can contact me to adapt the program. The Dome des Ecrins is so beautiful that you definitely also have to come in the winter, check out this ski touring program.

We meet at Oulx or Briançon. We stop at Briançon if you need to rent equipment. Transfer to La Grave. This first day is for acclimatization. We go up by cablecar to 3200m. There we can already touch the glaciers. We practice some exercises on the snow and ice: roping, use of ice axe, crampons and ice screws. Depending on the level of the group and the weather conditions, we will go to the Girose pass (3514m) or to the Dome de la Lauze (3559m). Then descent by cablecar to La Grave and a short transfer to the small village of Villar-d’Arêne. We spend the night at a comfortable lodge.

I was disappointed. I was slower than the rest of the group reaching Tete Rousse, and the guide discouraged me from going to Gouter. I had a slight ankle sprain the day before which slowed my ascent. I recovered 95% the day after. My complaint: when I decided to go for a second guided attempt, at a slower pace, I received no help in securing a guide, or a reservation at Gouter. The online reservation showed fully booked both for Rousse and Gouter. But I know that there were lots of empty bunks at Rousse, and I suspect the same at Gouter. I received sympathy, but only as a formality. Initially I had sought a single dedicated guide, but I was encouraged to join a group. I did not get a choice.I should have known better, I knew my pace would be a bit slower, but I counted on your support and understanding. I got neither. I was on my own with no help.
