The famous 1800-meter Eiger North face is the highest wall of the Alps, but there is a dark history behind it.
Many years ago the North Face of Eiger was a very dangerous climbing goal because of the few safety precautions taken, and the lack of quality climbing equipment. In fact, during the summer, climbing this wall was considered suicidal because of the rock slides.
However, the Eiger North face is a perfect climbing option during autumn and springtime. The cold weather and resulting snow and ice enables the rocks to remain stuck to the mountain. And although you will need some technical climbing experience and solid fitness, this guided climb will enable you to get the best from Eiger safely.
As your mountain guide, I will carefully review all of the factors, as well as your technical climbing level before deciding on the right climbing objectives. Therefore, before the big goal I’ll need to know you well. So, I propose we go on at least 1 or 2 previous climbs together to ensure you are ready for this great challenge. This will allow us to get to know each other, and for me to properly assess your mountaineering experience. For the training, we can climb the north face of les Droites or the supper couloir of Le Mont-Blanc du Tacul, among other options.
In addition to the excitement that climbing the Eiger generates, I always recommend this 2-day program because:
- It is the biggest face of the entire Alps
- It is one of the most famous mountaineering routes in history. Many stories have been written about ascents on the North Face of Eiger
- The climbing line is logical and very elegant
- It is a fun and exciting climb
It is also possible to do this the ascent in one day. I also ask that you take into account that the program might change based on the weather conditions. And above all, safety remains my top priority!
If you want more details, or if you’d like to book your spot for the next departure, please contact me. I will be glad to lead you on this challenging experience on the biggest wall of the Alps.
If you would like to climb up another gorgeous North face in the Swiss Alps, you can also join me on this 3 day north face expedition to the top of the famed Matterhorn.
We will meet at the hotel in the valley, check and prepare all the equipment and have a good night’s sleep before the big challenge.
We will wake up early and climb all day on the north face of Eiger. We will spend the night on a bivouac at 2/3 of the ascent.
Climbing day 2 and return
We will wake up early, pack, and go for the final ascent of Mt Eiger through the north face. We will then climb down to the valley and spend our last night there, where we will celebrate.
