Join me in this mountaineering expedition to climb Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside the Himalayas!
Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemispheres. The Aconcagua is part of the Andes mountain range (province of Mendoza, Argentina).
The scheduled date for the 2017-2018 season expedition is from January 31st 2018 to February 12th 2018.
The summit is located about 15 kilometres from the international border with Chile. It is one of the Seven Summits (the highest mountains of each of the seven continents).
With good climate, from the summit we’ll be able to enjoy an incredible 360° view that you’ll never forget: infinite mountains, white fields and glaciers, including the stunning peaks of Cerro Mercedario and Cerro Tolosa.
The following itinerary is a general plan. As I know the area very well I’m able to show you special spots if the weather makes it possible.
Day 1: From Mendoza to Penitentes (2700 m).
Day 2: Ar Penitentes mules loading. Trek from Penitentes to Confluencia (3400 m). Camp at around 3PM.
Day 3: From Confluencia, acclimatization trek to the South Wall (4200 m, 6-7 hours). Then return to Confluencia.
Day 4: From Confluencia to Plaza de Mulas (4300 m). The trek lasts around 7 hours.
Day 5: Plaza de Mulas (rest day).
Day 6: From Plaza de Mulas to Nido de Cóndores (5500 m, 6-7 hours). Then back to Plaza de Mulas.
Day 7: Plaza de Mulas. Today will be a rest day.
Day 8: From Plaza de Mulas to Nido de Cóndores (5500 m).
Day 9: From Nido de Cóndores to summit (6960 m). Camp. The trek lasts around 14-16 hours.
Day 10: Backup Day. Day 11: From camp to Plaza de Mulas
Day 12: From Plaza de Mulas to Mendoza or Santiago. End of Expedition.
I also consider two extra days to prevent us from bad weather conditions.
