You cannot leave Iceland without seeing the Northern Lights! On this day trip, we see not just one, but two of Iceland’s natural jewels. We start with a spectacular glacier walk and then go on a search for the incredible Aurora Borealis.
It will be an amazing day out in nature. I (or another member of my guiding agency) will pick you up in Reykjavik around 11:30 am. We will be out for 11-12 hours. We will first go to the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue where we will take a short walk across the glacier onto the ice field. I will tell you about all the different aspects of the glacier, like its water cauldrons, ridges, crevasses, and waterways. Then you will be a bit more knowledgeable of these ice masses.
Next, we will stop by the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall. With the right sunshine, you might be able to see a rainbow in front of the rushing water. The waterfall also appears in some Icelandic legends. After observing the waterfall, we will have dinner at a traditional Icelandic restaurant.
Finally, we will head out searching for the mysterious Northern Lights. On our way, we will visit the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is lit up at night in the wintertime. We will then spend the rest of the evening looking for a good viewpoint of the Northern Lights. I cannot guarantee a sighting, but I will use my knowledge and experience so that we have the best chance possible.
This day trip combines many of Iceland’s sensational natural features. You will not regret getting outside to experience the best of Iceland!
The trip departs everyday from September 1st to April 15th. If you are interested in booking a spot, please contact me. I can give you more information and answer any questions you might have.
I offer many other outdoors trips in Iceland. For example, you can join me on a 5-day tour of Hornstrandir National Park.
