Located around the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, the national park was created to protect the lush and beautiful biodiversity in the area. Spanning over 14,083 hectares, the national park is enormous. It is full of incredible, semi-deciduous forest as well as stretches of rocky terrain. Thus providing those who visit the park with a diverse hiking experience. Furthermore, during this hike, we can reach altitudes as high as 5,748 feet, which will give you amazing views of the Caribbean water. Other amazing things you can see during this hike include the Guanacaste Volcanic Mounain Range, fumaroles, hot mud pools, the unique steam holes of Las Pailas and a 195 foot high waterfall. Finally, you will also get to see the park’s rich and diverse collection of wildlife as well, including spider monkeys, leaf-cutter ants, toucans and more.
The trek in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park will take approximately 2 hours. It is not very difficult. However, participants should be in good physical condition.
