Hike to the top of Chacaltaya (5,500m) in Bolivia, Day trip from La Paz

Reach one of the most incredible places in South America: the Chacaltaya (5,500 m) mountain. Join this day expedition departing from La Paz, Bolivia.

Chacaltaya was the only official ski slope in the country, and the highest in the country. Due to pollution and global warming, unfortunately, it got closed. However, this majestic peak remains with fresh snow during the winter. And, because of its ideal location near La Paz, it is the ideal place to visit for an acclimatization trip.

Our program will begin in La Paz, from we’ll pick you up. So, after a 2:30 hour drive from the capital city of this magical country, we’ll reach a refuge on Chacaltaya. From here, we’ll enjoy the absolutely most breathtaking views of La Paz, and the Cordillera Real. Also, we’ll get a well deserved rest, while we enjoy fresh coffee and snacks. Thereupon, our hiking adventure begins. After an hour of trekking we will finally reach the summit of Chacaltaya.

This dazzling summit standing at 5,500 meters will offer the best sceneries for amazing pictures, or to simply take them in. We’ll be able to see all the way to Huayna Potosi and the Cordillera Real. Then, we’ll prepare for our descent, and later the drive back to La Paz.
