Huascaran is the highest snowy massif of Peru and the fourth highest peak of the American Continent. With a height of 6.768 meters, it is the snow-capped peak that dominates the landscape in Cordillera Blanca, where it is located.
The Huascaran National Park will give us the possibility of getting acclimatized before the climb to Huascaran Summit. You also have to be well trained and have some previous mountaineering experience. Of course I will help you in everything you need to reach to the top of the second highest mountain of the world (if we measure it from the Ecuador Line). Are you ready?
Here you have the full program:
DAY 1: LIMA – HUARAZ
A transfer will take you from the bus terminal to Huaraz, a village in the middle of the Cordillera Blanca, from where we will start the trip. We spend the night in a hotel there.
DAY 2: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY
We will hike up to Churup Lake at 4.450 meters in order to prepare our bodies for the next hard days of climb. It will take us 4 or 5 hours. Return to Huaraz.
DAY 3: HIKE TO HUASCARAN BASE CAMP
In the morning we leave Huaraz and go towards the town of Musho. We will meet our donkey driver there, who will help us during our 5-hour hike up to Huascaran base camp at 4.300m.
DAY 4: HARD ASCENT DAY
In our fourth day we will start hiking in a rocky part first, until we get to Moraine Camp. Once in there we must put our climbing equipment because two hours of glacier walking will be waiting for us. Finally we set up our camp in the High Camp at 5.400 meters.
DAY 5: MORE AND MORE HEIGHT
The first 3 hours of this day will be dedicated to climbing up to La Garganta. While you are climbing through the increasingly broken glaciers, you will find short sections of technical climbing, which includes an ice slope of 60 degrees of inclination. Then, we will get to the High Camp II at 6.000 meters, where we will spend the night.
DAY 6: SUMMIT DAY
Our summit day will start at 1 AM so that we can reach to the top at 9 AM (remember it is 6.768 meters high!). Once in Huascaran Summit we will admire the amazing view of the Cordillera Blanca and take some pictures of such a moment. Then, we return down to the High Camp.
DAY 7: HIKING DOWN
After breakfast we will descend to the Moraine Camp and then to the Base Camp, where we will arrive at 2 PM approximately.
DAY 8: MUSHO – HUARAZ
From our base camp we will hike down during about 3 hours down to Musho in order to be taken to Huaraz, where we will enjoy a celebration dinner.
DAY 9: OPTIONAL EXTRA DAY
In case we need an extra day because of the weather conditions or more acclimatization time, we can use this option.
DAY 10: HUARAZ – LIMA
A transfer will take you to the bus terminal and once in Lima, to the airport.
It will be an amazing and unforgettable experience among one of the more marvelous mountain ranges of the continent. Get in touch with me and let’s make this trip together! I will be waiting for you message.
