Enjoy some fantastic hut to hut ski touring in the Slovenian Julian Alps, around Mount Triglav, with a guide from the Mitja Sorn team.

Julian Alps
1+ Days
Jan - Apr
Slovenia offers only one option to go on a ski touring trip from hut to hut, especially since most huts remain closed during the winter. It will be around Mount Triglav, Sloveniaâs highest peak (2864 m), in the Julian Alps. Several paths are possible. Here is one where I like to guide my friends and clients.
If you choose to come on this ski touring trip, you will stay far from the crowds, which in my opinion is a great advantage. Depending on your wishes and availability, I can build a 3- or a 6-days long program.
I propose the following program as a 6-day example for this trip in the Julian Alps.
Day 1
Cable car to the Vogel ski resort. From the ski resort, we ski down to Suha meadow and then ascend Rodica, one of the most famous ski touring mountains in Slovenia.
Day 2
We will leave the crowds at the ski resort behind and enjoy the loneliness for the next few days. Today, we are going to do the first section of the original Triglav traverse from Vogel to Komna. We will then sleep in the comfortable hut on Komna plateau.
Day 3
From Komna we will cross Bogatin sadle towards Krn lakes. Then, we will ascend one of the peaks above the lakes (Krn, Batognica, Vrh nad PeskiâŠ) and descend back down to the hut by the Krn lakes.
Day 4
From Krn lakes, we will ascend Velika Baba and descend to the valley of the seven lakes. On the top of the valley we will find shelter at Prehodavci hut. This hut is not as comfortable as the previous two, but it will be open just for our group. They have no heating in the rooms, but there is limited heating in the dining room.
Day 5
From Prehodavci, we will ascend Kanjavec (2569 m), the highest ski touring peak in Slovenia. From the top, one of the best skiing of the trip is offered, down to the valley Velo polje. Then, we will have to ascend to Triglavski dom Kredarica. In this hut only the dining room is warm, while the rooms are cold.
Day 6
A great finale is waiting for us. The ascent to the Triglav summit is something that many of guests want to experience. As the final ascent requires some technical skills, it is optional. One guide can take up to two persons max, so there is âŹ150 per person extra charge to ascend it. The guests who decide to climb it will have to wake up earlier that day, so the rest of the group wonât wait for us for too long. Once we are back from the top, the skiing will be waiting for us. The descend to Krma valley is again one of the most classic ski tours in Slovenia.
Interested in experiencing this great hut to hut traverse in the Julian Alps? Then please get in touch with me! I will be happy to discuss the details with you and propose a program that fulfills your expectations.
- Guiding fee
The length of the program can vary between 3-6 days. Half board in mountain huts is around 50⏠per person. The cable car is 10âŹ.

Mountain Guide
I am a UIAGM mountain guide, ski instructor and sports teacher and the current president of the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association.
I am still the only guide who can make a living working exclusively in Slovenia. I climb Triglav more than 25 times per year, which means I have climbed the most famous peak in my country over 200 times.
If you want to climb or ski in Slovenian mountains I am the right choice. I guide via ferrata, rock climbing, snow climbing, ice climbing, hikes, heliski, freeride skiing and ski touring.
Slovenia has good options for all of these activities, so you are welcome to take a look at my trips and find something for yourself. If you don't find anything let me know and I will see if I can help you!
I speak English. Ich sprache auch ein bischen Deutsch. Parla anche un pocho Italiano e abla tambien un po Espanol.
If I am not available to guide you, one of the super experienced guides in my team - Rok, Peter, Grega or Igor - will be your guide.

We booked a weekend trip to summit the Triglav. Mitja was very kind and helpful from the start (even before the trip, he was very responsive and helpful through e-mail). We were kindly picked up early in the morning and brought back the second day. Mitja was very communicative from the start, checking in if we we're doing okay and if the pace was good and answering all our questions. We could tell that Mitja had a lot of experience in the mountains and as a guide, which made us feel comfortable and safe from the start. It was great to have two guides at the summit as we we're a group of three. This was our first experience summiting in the winter and it was a great one. Thank you so much Mitja and team for making this amazing experience possible!

Mitja was an amazing guide and especially a great companion on this tour. Mitja was easy to communicate with when planning the trip, well reflected about conditions and honest about best possibilities on how to spend these days in Slovenia. Mitja is a caring character giving all of us a feeling of beeing welcome on the tour. He adjusts his walking & skiing to group capabilities and is flexible with any planning - you get the feeling that it is "your tour". He knows the terrain extremely well and will share a lot of information about the surroundings. He took us to amazing sunsetting spots just next to Triglav Mountain for a last decent of the day and is only one of two guides having stored equipment in the remote mountain hut in the middle of Triglav National Park. Mitja is fun and communicative and easy to get a connection with. However he also leaves space for any character and does not try to "entertain" continuously which we highly appreciated. We can absolutely recommend and to reach out to Mitja for any trip in the Alps and in Triglav National Park especially. All the best from Germany, Lukas & Martin

Actually, due to the weather conditions, there are no ice for climbing. Mitja was very nice to offer us other options. We chose hiking in snow near Vogel instead. Mitja was very nice and professional. He provide sufficient gears and useful advice. Walking in snow was hard to balance, and the wind was very strong upside. But the view was magnificent and worthy. It was a very unique experience!

Our guide Matea was very knowledgeable and personable. Even with varrying levels of experience and abilities within our group, Matea was able to make it an enjoyable experience for all. I am very thankful for his leadership and recommendations and decisions as a guide to keep us safe and make the hike as successful as it could be.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
