Ice climbing is a unique sport that you can practice in many beautiful snowy locations around the world. I am offering this beginner’s ice climbing weekend to teach the fundamentals of ice climbing during a 2-day course. If ice climbing has always interested you but you lack the skills, then this trip is for you.
Unlike my other beginner’s ice climbing course, this ice climbing weekend includes two full days of climbing out on the Sólheimajökull glacier, plus a night in a hotel. It is an all-in, immersive experience that will boost your skills and increase your confidence. Plus, Iceland is the perfect place to practice ice climbing. You will be amazed by the beauty and variety of the glacier landscape.
This ice climbing weekend teaches many beginning and intermediate level ice climbing techniques combined with practical application. On the first day, we will focus on rope and climbing skills. You will have lots of time to practice on different ice walls on the beautiful Sólheimajökull glacier. I or another guide will be there every step of the way to guide you and correct your technique. That evening, we will sleep in a local hotel, far from city lights. If we’re lucky, we might be able to see the Northern Lights from our hotel. The next day, you will continue to practice your skills and enjoy climbing on the glacier. At the end of the long but fulfilling day, we will drive back to Reykjavik.
For this trip, I include all personal and group climbing equipment plus evening accommodation near the glacier. So you just have to come and enjoy the ice climbing weekend. The trip is suitable for those who have a serious interest in ice climbing and those who just want to have a fun weekend of climbing.

I or another guide from my team will pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavik around 8:00 am. From there, we’ll head to my office for a boot and crampon fitting. Then we’ll drive for about 2 hours to the Sólheimajökull glacier. On the first day, we’ll mostly work on climbing skills and rope work. At the end of the day, we’ll head to our hotel in the countryside.
We’ll have breakfast at the hotel (included in the price) and then head back out to the Sólheimajökull glacier for another beautiful day of glacier climbing. We’ll spend the day both working on our rope skills and perfecting our climbing technique. At the end of the day, we’ll go back to Reykjavik and will arrive around 7:00 pm.
