Description

Discover the magic of Malyovitsa and join a guided hike to the top of a Bulgarian masterpiece!  This one-day program immerses you in an astounding region replete with beauty and adventure that you can only find in the Rila Mountains!

Malyovista is an amazing landscape located south of Sofia, in the northwestern area of the Rila Mountains. The entire Bulgarian mountain range is symbolic to the country, from its Rila Monastery – as notable for its cultural significance as its architectural – to the hot springs sprouting up throughout its valleys. Add the aesthetic treasures of undisturbed glacial lakes, rivers, and soaring Balkan summits, and you have a recipe for an enticing day-long trek to the gem of Malyovista Peak (2,729m), the epitome of Bulgarian alpinism.

Our program places you in the center of the region and Rila National Park, giving you a thorough tour of its intricate nature. We will walk along the Malyovitsa River and the stunning valley trail, taking in the crisp Bulgarian air. The Rila Monastery has added substantial historical value to the region. We will learn and examine this fascinating and enriching culture while making our way up the mountain.

We will have the chance to visit the Malyovitsa Hut (1960m), an accommodating refuge for adventurers and tourists traveling through the region. It can accommodate up to 125 people, with many mountaineers and climbers taking advantage of its services when mountaineering and rock climbing on the nearby crags. When it comes to alpine and climbing activities, Malyovitsa has become a world-class destination in Bulgaria and one of the most popular in the region.

After a long hike, we will reach the summit and its unbelievable panoramas. You will be able to look out on other Rila peaks and the beautiful mountainside, enjoying the satisfying accomplishment of conquering one of Bulgaria’s iconic climbs. Our descent down Malyovitsa will follow the same satisfying route back to the valley, culminating in a fulfilling adventure in just one day.

The trek itself covers an elevation gain of 900 meters, with about eight hours of hiking and taking up to a half-day to complete (11-12 hours). Keeping this in mind, you should be physically fit to participate in the hike. Prior experience in mountaineering or climbing is an asset when it comes to completing this program successfully.

Malyovitsa is a unique experience that I am thrilled to share with you. I will ensure a safe and fun hike that will leave a lasting impression on you. Your time in the Rila Mountains will be nothing short of spectacular.

Book this amazing one-day hiking program NOW and rise to the top of a Bulgarian icon on a tour of mighty Malyovitsa and the Rila Mountains!

If you had a more ambitious adventure in mind, we can go on a five-day program hiking the Bulgarian Balkans!

Mountain Leader

Hello all, my name is Zhivko, and I am an IFMGA Mountain Guide from Bulgaria, a member of the EEMGA. I am working as a guide full time, not only in my home country but also in a lot of different areas abroad, covering all the aspects of mountaineering: rock and ice climbing, summer and winter mountaineering, glacier travel, ski touring and splitboarding, etc.  Apart from that, I am also a mountain rescue instructor and a snowboard instructor, and I organize different group and individual activities or educational programs.I mainly work with personal trips on demand, but am into different options, and you are very welcome to meet me on any of them.

I think that Zhivko is absolutely brilliant in his role: always providing professional insight and mental support. I am sure I would have never made it to the top had I not been assisted by an experienced guide. Zhivko was very mindful throughout the entire duration of the challenge - e.g. advising on proper way of stepping, breathing, clothing etc. I would like to emphasise not only his great knowledge of practicalities related to hiking and climbing, but also fantastic psychological and social skills, showing respect to both: the environment and fellow hikers/ climbers. I've received a feedback following the completion of my 'mission' which will surely help me in the future. It's apparent that Zhivko loves what he is doing for living and he does what he loves rather than simply earning money. Absolutely fabulous experience!

Mountain guide Zhivko is a very nice, experienced and open minded guide who made me feel safe on our trekking. I am a beginner and he patiently guided me through the inspiring natural winter beauty of Rila Mountain on snow shoes. He prepared everything perfectly and made the trip 100% customized to my wishes. The area is breathtaking and remote in wintertime. We went to the Ivan Vasov hut and did not meet anyone on the way. Shortly: highlly recommended for nature lovers :)!
