Description

I am going to lead you on a day of ski traversing through the cold, crisp, fresh and beautiful mountains that envelope Ísafjörður, Iceland, as we traipse around the perfect powder and landscapes that overlook splendid fjords and the vast open ocean.

The “Peaks of Thieves”, as they are known, are a veritable Winter Wonderland, with the relatively unsullied scenery providing a stunning backdrop to our ski traverse, winding our way along the routes which are suitable for beginners and experts alike, making for a memorable day which you won’t be forgetting in a hurry!

We meet at our offices in Ísafjörður at 10am, where we grab our lunch and all relevant equipment and information for the trip is dispensed. It is then a short drive to our starting point, the special, picture-perfect Syðridalur Valley.

The skiing begins in earnest here, as we strap on our skis and move towards the equally as exceptional Seljadalur Valley, before continuing up the ridge to the peak of the tranquil Heiðnafjall Mountain, where the sublime panoramic view offers splendid photo-opportunities of the great fjords and wide open ocean.

After a short rest to replenish and recharge, we ski along the valley floor Hnífsdalur in order to reach the top of the mystical Breiðafell Mountain.

The final part of the day entails skiing down a mountain of an old ski resort, with the ski lifts ruined in a 1994 avalanche still visible. We then have the choice of finishing this adventure-filled day by getting picked up here or continuing further along to the golf course, ending up back at the offices with a heart and head full of amazing memories!

Ski traversing in Iceland has been capturing peoples hearts the world over – book now and let it capture yours!

About the guide

guide profile img

I hold a degree in geography and started my guiding career as a mountain biking and hiking guide in the summer for different adventure companies in Iceland. I also worked as a tourism consultant for few years but felt it was time to put my skills into practice and put up an adventure operation in cooperation with other good people.

I was a boy scout when I was younger and learned to love the outdoors, especially the mountains. Skiing, ice & rock climbing and kayaking are my favorite sports and a part of his job. I have for years led mountaineering and avalanche SAR courses for the Icelandic Rescue Team Association.

Among other things, I have scaled 6000 m peaks in Peru, done skiing and kayaking expeditions in Greenland, climbed in the Alps few times and done paragliding in the Pyrenees.

I have finished WFR first aid training, hold a BCU 4 star kayaking certificate, have finished my marine CTCW training to be qualified as a professional crew member and Canadian Level I and Level II avalanche training.

My great experience and expertise means that you're in safe hands.
