Mount Tamalpais soars high within the protected Mount Tamalpais State Park in the Marin County of California.
Overlooking the North Bay, the mountain is scared by jagged volcanic rock that has created a natural playground full of interesting climbs.
It is the highest peak of the Marin Hills, a collection of steep ridges and high peaks, and part of the larger California Coast Ranges, which stretch 400 miles.
Mount Tamalpais receives a diverse microclimate, which has cultivated a wealth of flora. This includes a large group of hardwood, grassland and wetland, a collection of oak and forests of coniferous and coast redwood.
The rocks here offer relatively easy climbing opportunities, which makes the mountain an ideal spot for learning the fundamentals of climbing, as well as developing your top rope and trad lead climbing.
With the majority of the climbs located on the east side, the region provides breathtaking views of the rest of the bay area.
Also, there is an observation tower that remains on the east peak, formerly part of an old hotel that sat on the mountains. From the tower you’ll capture stunning sunsets over the Pacific Ocean.
