Arrive at the hotel and settle in. Get a good night’s sleep for the beginning of the trip tomorrow.
Take the taxi out to Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal, and hike back to Manteigas along the paths of Espinhaço de Cão and Nave de Santo António.
Head out via public transport to Sitio do Vale and walk back through golden fields of wheat and sheep. Take some time to stop and enjoy the famous Queijo da Serra, which is made here.
Take the day to explore on your own. We recommend heading to Guarda, Portugal’s highest city, which is only 40 kilometers away.
Walk down into the valley from Manteigas and follow the Rio Zêzere. Enjoy spectacular views from the shade of coniferous trees as you make your way back to the town.
Hike from Penhas Douradas to Nave da Mestra, a refuge tucked high up into the mountains and boasting great views. Make your way back after enjoying your time out.
Hike a circuit through the valley that starts and finishes at Torre. Enjoy great views of the forests, valleys and lakes that dot the landscape as you go.
Say goodbye to this beautiful landscape as you transfer back to the airport and return home.
