Description

The Shiratani-Unsuikyo valley on the island of Yakushima in Japan is a jewel well worth visiting.

I would like to guide you on a day long, group hiking tour through the amazing forest of Shiratani-Unsuikyo. The scenery you will get to see, explore and enjoy is spellbinding. It is vast and gorgeous, and looks like something you would see in a painting, or an animated film. And a big reason for that is because it actually has been used as the basis of one of the most acclaimed animated films of all time, Princess Mononoke.

You will get plenty of time to immerse yourself in the Shiratani-Unsuikyo forest, as we will be hiking for approximately 7 to 8 hours. We will also be hiking at an altitude of approximately 600 to 1,000 metres.

You do not require any previous hiking experience on this trip. You also don’t have to be in exceptional physical condition. However, you should be fit enough to maintain the established pace.

We will be taking different paths during this trekking journey. One of those paths is the Kusukawa path, which was very important during the Edo period. The other path is the Tsuji path, which we will take to reach the beautiful Taiko-Iwa, otherwise known as the drum stone.

This day long trek through the Shiratani-Unsuikyo valley is something you will never forget because the scenery is absolutely stunning. So if you want to join a group and start trekking, all you have to do is send a request. I would be happy to guide you.

There is also a private option of this trip as well, which you can participate in here.
