Join Runar, a certified and experienced guide, on this unique adventure in Iceland. Discover the Icelandic wonders on this 6-days speedboat-assisted skiing tour.
When you want to go skiing or travelling on a speedboat, there are many famous places that come to one’s mind. However, not many even think about Iceland. This 6-day speedboat-assisted skiing tour in Iceland, will make you forget about any other places you’ve ever been to. So join me on this trip and discover all the magic that Iceland offers.
During our tour, you will enjoy 6 days of world class skiing, as well as stunning views from the speedboat.
The transportation itself is a wonderful experience. Our speedboat Bjarnarnes will take you to the best places where you’ll begin your hikes. This will allow you to enjoy the experience of trekking from the sea level to the summit of the mountains. Then, you’ll get to ski down, back to the water. Upon descent, our boat will take you back to our lodge.
The lodge is right at the heart of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. This lodge used to be a farm, and has now become a rustic and cozy welcoming place. The house has its own charm and interesting history, built in 1921 and abandoned in 1948, it guards many intriguing spots and secrets.
Due to its isolation, Kviar is a quiet place and the perfect retreat for those looking for a different kind of adventure. Every day, there will be an exquisite dinner waiting for you in Kviar. You’ll savor every bite of your dinner, and enjoy every minute of sailing and skiing. The tranquility of Kviar will be the perfect setting to reflect on your days full of adventures.
If you are looking for a unique type of trip, search no more. This tour in Iceland is perfect for you! Send me a request and I promise you’ll have an experience difficult to forget.
During April and May of 2019 there will be departures on Mondays.
Also, if you want to explore this area during the summer, I offer this 6 day kayaking tour as well.

Today we’ll head to Lónafjörður Fjord where many options await for us. So, we can go either to Rangali, where we’ll skin up Rangalaskarð Pass. There, we’ll have an amazing view of the Hornvík Bay. Or we can head to Miðkjós and skin up to the peaks of Snókur and Breiðuskarðahnjúkur, for thrilling ski runs. Then, we take a boat ride back to Kvíar for a great meal. At the end of the day we can walk around the beach picking mussels. And finally back at the lodge we can just get into the sauna and relax.
This day you’ll go on the big Zodiac to Veiðileysufjörður. There, we’ll ski over to Lónafjörður Fjord. This area has some of the most hypnotizing fjordscapes in Iceland.
We’ll explore the mountains in Hrafnfjörður, also known as Raven’s Fjord. You’ll find uncomparable cruising grounds with the smoothes runs. There are many gorgeous places to visit, but the highlights are definitely from the top of Mt. Bláfell and Hvítserkur. Also, the pass between Bláfell and Mt. Hattarfell is an incredible spot to visit. Additionally we have the option to ski the West face of Hattarfell if you want a different challenge and a really steep run.
On our last day full of adventures, we’ll take a short ride to Höfðaströnd Beach. Then we’ll skin up to summit of Mt. Tröllafell, also known as Troll Mountain. You’ll find a mix of open runs and steep couloirs.
This day our boat will come early to pick you up and take you back to Ísafjörður. But worry not, because the adventure doesn’t end there. You’ll also have the chance to ski in the vicinity town, where different options await, such as traverse or steep couloirs.
I hold a degree in geography and started my guiding career as a mountain biking and hiking guide in the summer for different adventure companies in Iceland. I also worked as a tourism consultant for few years but felt it was time to put my skills into practice and put up an adventure operation in cooperation with other good people.
I was a boy scout when I was younger and learned to love the outdoors, especially the mountains. Skiing, ice & rock climbing and kayaking are my favorite sports and a part of his job. I have for years led mountaineering and avalanche SAR courses for the Icelandic Rescue Team Association.
Among other things, I have scaled 6000 m peaks in Peru, done skiing and kayaking expeditions in Greenland, climbed in the Alps few times and done paragliding in the Pyrenees.
I have finished WFR first aid training, hold a BCU 4 star kayaking certificate, have finished my marine CTCW training to be qualified as a professional crew member and Canadian Level I and Level II avalanche training.
My great experience and expertise means that you're in safe hands.

Runar Karlsson was not our guide. We were surprised to discover, only on the day of our hike upon our arrival to your office, that he wasn’t. A disappointment, after we had received a detailed explanation from Runar describing his skills and CV days before. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding on our part, but we were under the impression we had booked this hike as a private venture for the four of us well in advance, since the date we requested was not part of the dates standardly offered. Therefore we thought we were going to benefit from Runar’s geologic expertise and personal attention during our hike. Instead, again we were surprised to discover another hiker was joining our group to whom our guide directed most of his attention and time. The two of them hiked well ahead of the rest of us for most of the hike. Also, we were offered little unsolicited geologic or local information from our guide, which was an important aspect of this hike and something we were all looking forward to learning. It was an exhilarating hike and the views were spectacular but it was not the experience we were led to believe it would be.

Runar wasn\'t our guide. I already sent a review to Boreas Adventures. We were disappointed with the hike. It was much shorter than we expected and less challenging than we expected. The guide wasn\'t very knowledgeable and we probably could have done the trip without him. The best part of the trip was on the boat when we saw 2 humpback whales.

We did not have Runar Karlsson as our guide. Instead we enjoyed the expertise of a young Icelandic woman who also serves as an Olympic Cross-Country coach for Icelandic youth. She guided us along the Hornstrandir coast towards one of the Arctic Fox habitats. Although no foxes were seen we learned much about the area, the fjord and its history. We also enjoyed a walk with her to a lovely waterfall behind the farmhouse.
